Job Title: Storage System Engineer (Mainframe)

Duration: 12-18 months

Location: Plano, TX (3 days per week onsite)

Other Approved Locations: Hopewell, NJ / Charlotte, NC / Richmond, VA

Pay Rate: $60/hr W2

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Mainframe Storage Engineer to lead and support large-scale infrastructure initiatives. This role will focus on designing, implementing, and optimizing mainframe storage environments, including upgrades, migrations, capacity planning, and disaster recovery. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on engineering expertise as well as architectural/design experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement mainframe storage architecture solutions
• Lead data center move projects, including role swaps and disaster recovery
• Plan and execute refreshes/upgrades across storage platforms
• Perform capacity management and optimize cost efficiency
• Drive I/O performance tuning and troubleshooting across storage and network layers
• Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure reliable, secure storage delivery

Must-Have Skills & Experience

• 10+ years in Mainframe Storage Engineering & Architecture
• Expertise in Storage Architecture, Encryption, and Fiber Protocols (FICON)
• Strong background with HCD/IOCP and I/O Performance (DASD, Switches, Virtual Tape)
• Experience with refreshes/upgrades: Brocade directors/switches, Hitachi DASD, IBM Virtual Tape (TS7700s)
• Skilled in SAN replication design & configuration
• Capacity planning (network/switches, storage) and cost benefit analysis/consolidation/reduction
• Proven experience in data center migrations, role swaps, and DR exercises
