Position Overview
\n
Guzman Energy is seeking a Manager of Day-Ahead Scheduling and Real-Time Trading to lead the day-to-day operation of our 24/7 trading and scheduling desk. This role owns shift coverage, training, procedure adherence, desk reporting, and direct supervision of Real-Time Traders, Real-Time Schedulers, and Day-Ahead Schedulers.

Key Responsibilities
\n
Day-to-Day Desk Supervision
\n
- \n
- Supervise traders and schedulers on shift during business hours. Serve as the first escalation point for pricing, scheduling, and reliability questions
- Hold the desk to established playbooks, procedures, and escalation paths
- Run desk communication so position, exposure, and open items transfer cleanly between shifts
- Cover trading and scheduling seats as needed during absences, training, and peak activity
- Lead monthly desk huddles

Team Development and Administration
\n

- Maintain the published shift schedule, process time-off requests, and flag coverage gaps
- Deliver the onboarding and training curriculum for new traders, schedulers, and trainees. Track progression
- Provide ongoing coaching and documented feedback. Contribute written input to formal performance reviews
- Participate in interviews and provide hiring recommendations
- Maintain documentation: procedures, checklists, contact lists, and training materials

Day-Ahead Scheduling
\n

- Supervise the day-ahead cycle: load and resource submissions, market awards, and interchange scheduling. Verify accuracy before submission deadlines
- Ensure e-tagging, checkout, and after-the-fact corrections are complete and timely
- Coordinate with settlements on data accuracy and dispute identification
- Confirm outage submissions and offer/bid data quality across markets

Real-Time Trading Support
\n
- \n
- Oversee real-time management of loads, resources, and storage assets during business hours, including BESS dispatch execution against approved strategy
- Monitor system conditions, load deviations, and market signals. Direct the desk's tactical response within established risk parameters
- Coordinate with cash/term traders so intraday activity stays aligned with the broader position

Compliance and Reporting
\n

- Ensure desk activity complies with NERC, ISO/RTO, and Guzman Energy Risk Management policies
- Own daily desk reporting: performance summaries, market notes, and event write-ups
- Compile documentation for audits, data requests, and market monitoring inquiries
- Track trader and scheduler certifications, market registrations, and training requirements

Required Qualifications
\n
- \n
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline
- 3 or more years of experience in real-time power trading, day-ahead scheduling, or system operations
- Prior mentorship, training, or peer-leadership responsibility on a trading or operations desk
- Working knowledge of transmission scheduling and procurement: OASIS mechanics, PTP rights, e-tagging, and interchange scheduling
- Ability to make fast, sound decisions under pressure and to direct others while doing it
- Clear written and verbal communication. Able to coach a trainee, write a clean event summary, and brief upper management
- Proficiency with trading platforms such as OATI WebTrader, webSmartOASIS, and webSmartTag, as well as Microsoft Excel
- Willingness to cover shifts and respond to off-hours escalation when coverage or reliability events require it

Qualifications
\n
- \n
- Direct experience as a market participant in CAISO, SPP, MISO, ERCOT, or PJM
- Formal supervisory or team lead experience
- Experience delivering or building desk training programs
- Technical skills (Python, SQL, R, or dashboard tools) applied to desk reporting and automation
- Understanding of NERC reliability standards and energy scheduling protocols. NERC certification a plus
