MANUFACTURING QUALITY DIRECTOR

Summary/Objective
The Quality Manufacturing Director leads the Quality Control (QC) and Continuous Improvement (CI) functions to ensure product excellence and operational efficiency. This role drives a culture of quality and continuous improvement by implementing robust QC processes, leveraging data-driven insights, and applying methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma. The Director collaborates with cross-functional teams to enhance manufacturing performance, ensure compliance with industry standards, and support the company’s sustainability objectives.
Essential Functions
- Lead QC and CI teams to identify and resolve quality and process issues using root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) to prevent recurrence.
- Develop and optimize QC inspection and testing protocols to enhance defect detection, reduce cycle times, and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Drive CI initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to streamline processes, reduce waste, and improve operational efficiency across manufacturing operations.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain teams to integrate process enhancements, reducing variability and improving product reliability.
- Define and monitor QC-specific KPIs, such as first-pass yield, scrap rates, and inspection accuracy, using statistical process control (SPC) to track real-time production quality.
- Establish and track CI metrics, including process cycle time reductions, cost savings, and customer satisfaction improvements, to align with organizational goals.
- Utilize advanced analytics tools (e.g., Minitab, Power BI) to analyze QC and CI data, generate predictive insights, and support strategic decision-making.
- Prepare and present data-driven reports to leadership to align quality and improvement strategies with business objectives.
- Oversee QC inspection, testing, and validation processes, ensuring adherence to quality management system (QMS) standards and supporting external audits.
- Lead, mentor, and develop QC and CI teams, fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous learning.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external stakeholders, including customers and suppliers, addressing quality-related inquiries, complaints, and surveys.
- Support the QMS by contributing to audits, documentation, and process standardization under the guidance of the QMS Director.
- Promote sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities to reduce waste and improve resource efficiency through CI efforts.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position oversees the Quality Control and Continuous Improvement departments, managing teams responsible for inspections, testing, process optimization, and improvement initiatives.
Work Environment
Most work is performed in an office environment. Regular trips to the Fabrication Shop for observation and support may be necessary, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory head protection.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must also be able to climb a ladder.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Travel
Anticipated 25% travel for this position. Some occasional local day travel may also be necessary.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or related discipline, from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in industrial QA/QC or similar projects working experience.
- Certified ISO9001 internal auditor, familiar with ISO9001 system.
- Familiar with quality system, process control, PFMEA, etc.
- Familiar with selection and technical requirement of general mechanical equipment including pumps, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, etc.
