Technical Source is seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Manager, in Western, NC, to lead the commissioning of all mechanical systems in a new, state-of-the-art data center. This role ensures that all cooling and environmental systems — from chillers and pumps to CRAH/CRAC units — are installed, tested, and proven reliable to maintain optimal data center conditions.
The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise, hands-on commissioning experience, and strong coordination skills across electrical, mechanical, and construction teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the Mechanical Commissioning Plan (MCP), including pre-functional checks, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing (IST).
- Commission critical mechanical systems, including:
- Chillers, cooling towers, and pumps (chilled water and condenser water systems)
- CRAH/CRAC units, in-row coolers, and air handling units
- Ductwork, airflow management, and temperature/humidity control systems
- Heat exchangers, economizers/free cooling systems
- BMS/DDC controls, sensors, and alarms
- Fuel and water systems associated with mechanical operation
- Perform load testing, sequencing, and redundancy verification (N+1, 2N).
- Coordinate commissioning with electrical teams, vendors, contractors, and the owner's operations staff.
- Document all commissioning activities: punch lists, pre-functional and functional test results, as-built drawings, and manuals.
- Provide training and handover to operations staff upon completion.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or related field.
- Minimum 7–10 years of mechanical commissioning experience in mission-critical facilities, preferably data centers.
- Hands-on experience with chillers, pumps, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers, and BMS/DDC integration.
- Strong knowledge of ASHRAE standards, Tier-level redundancy (N, N+1, 2N), and mechanical system testing.
- Experience with functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, and load testing.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical schematics, and control sequences.
- Strong project management, communication, and team leadership skills.
- Safety-first mindset with knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures, equipment startup protocols, and mechanical safety standards.
Key Competencies:
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple contractors, vendors, and stakeholders effectively.
