Role Summary
iM is hiring an experienced, hands-on mechanical engineer to support and develop mechanical designs for modular data centers from concept through factory build and deployment. This role will focus on cooling systems, airflow, piping, mechanical layouts, equipment coordination, and manufacturing/construction support. Data center, mission-critical, industrial, or high-performance mechanical design experience is strongly .
Core Responsibilities
· Develop mechanical designs for modular data centers
· Support mechanical system architecture, including cooling systems, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, heat rejection, pumps, piping, valves, ventilation, humidification/dehumidification, and airflow management
· Prepare mechanical layouts, piping diagrams, equipment schedules, details, specifications, and coordination drawings
· Assist in establishing design standards and best practices for repeatable modular builds
· Ensure designs align with applicable mechanical codes, energy codes, ASHRAE standards, NFPA requirements, local AHJ requirements, and project specifications
· Coordinate with electrical, fire suppression, controls, structural, and architectural teams
· Support factory build with BOMs, release packages, shop drawings, testing procedures, equipment installation, and commissioning support
· Review cooling capacity, redundancy, airflow paths, equipment clearances, service access, and maintainability
· Troubleshoot field and factory mechanical issues and help drive corrective actions
· Interface with customers, inspectors, vendors, manufacturers, and subcontractors when required
Required Experience & Skills
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
· 5+ years mechanical engineering experience, preferably with data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial facilities, modular buildings, or similar high-performance environments
· Strong understanding of mechanical cooling systems and mechanical infrastructure
· Practical knowledge of:
o Chilled water systems
o CRAC/CRAH units
o Pumps, piping, valves, strainers, and heat exchangers
o Airflow management and containment strategies
o Ventilation, exhaust, and make-up air systems
o Mechanical equipment layout and service clearances
· Strong understanding of mechanical codes and data center cooling design practices
· Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit
· Experience supporting construction, fabrication, or manufacturing is strongly
· Ability to solve problems, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and take ownership of assigned work

· Modular or prefabricated data center experience
· Exposure to electrical systems, controls, fire suppression, or BMS/EMS systems
· PE license or EIT certification
· Experience with liquid cooling, rear-door heat exchangers, direct-to-chip cooling, or high-density HPC environments
