Mechanical / Piping Engineer (Data Center) – Direct Hire

Location: Houston, TX (Local Candidates Only – No Relocation)
Compensation: $90,000 – $135,000 Base + 10%–20% Performance Bonus
 

 

Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical / Piping Engineer (2–10 years experience) with strong EPC and modular engineering design experience to support large-scale hyperscale data center projects. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy, safety, and performance of mechanical and piping systems across design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning phases.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, check, and approve mechanical & piping drawings, calculations, and documentation
  • Perform piping stress analysis and flexibility studies (CAESAR II, NozzlePro, FEPipe)
  • Develop deliverables: line lists, valve lists, equipment lists, datasheets, MTOs, BOMs
  • Prepare Technical Requisitions (TRs) and evaluate vendor quotes
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes, client specs, and safety standards
  • Support manufacturing, construction, and commissioning teams with troubleshooting
  • Provide piping loads to structural teams and coordinate across disciplines
  • Participate in design reviews and client meetings as a technical representative
  • Assist with modular data center design and engineering improvements
  • Develop Design Basis documents and validate “as-built” conditions
  • Support RFIs, site visits, installation challenges, and commissioning efforts

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
  • 2–10 years of mechanical/piping engineering experience
  • Strong background in EPC modular engineering design
  • Experience with:
    • Piping systems design, routing, and components
    • Mechanical equipment (chillers, pumps, cooling systems, vessels, etc.)
    • Fire protection / suppression systems
  • Working knowledge of data center infrastructure ()

 

Technical Skills (Required)

  • CAESAR II
  • NozzlePro
  • FEPipe
  • Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint)
  • PDF editing tools (Adobe, Foxit, etc.)

 

Additional Tools

  • AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, Navisworks
  • SolidWorks
  • SAP (ERP systems)
  • COMPRESS, Pipe Data Pro, 3E Plus

 

Codes & Standards Knowledge

Familiarity with:

  • ASME (B31.3, BPV Sections VIII & IX)
  • ANSI, ASTM, AWS
  • NFPA, OSHA, IBC
  • NACE, PFI, AISI

 

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License
  • Data center project experience
  • Experience in fast-track design/build projects
  • Ability to coordinate with regulatory agencies and support permitting
