Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (Data Centres)
Our client, a leading UK developer, is seeking a high-calibre Mechanical SME to join their Design department. This is a critical role providing technical oversight and strategic direction for large-scale mechanical infrastructure across a sophisticated data centre portfolio.
The Role
As the primary technical advisor, you will ensure mechanical systems are designed for maximum reliability, scalability, and energy efficiency. You will work closely with external consultants and vendors while driving innovation in cooling technologies.
- Strategic Oversight: Lead the design, operation, and improvement of mechanical systems.
- Design Validation: Review and validate designs from external partners to ensure they meet strict performance and redundancy requirements.
- Innovation: Research and recommend emerging technologies, with a focus on liquid cooling and advanced energy-saving strategies.
- Troubleshooting: Conduct root-cause analysis for system inefficiencies or faults.
- Collaboration: Provide technical support to the RFP/bid process and lead workshops with high-level stakeholders.
What You’ll Need (Ideally)
- Experience: 10+ years in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years specifically in data centres or mission-critical environments.
- Certification: Chartered Engineer (CEng) or PE status is .
- Technical Depth: Extensive knowledge of pipework distribution, adiabatic systems, liquid cooling, and BMS/DCIM systems.
- Standards: In-depth familiarity with ASHRAE, CIBSE, and Uptime Institute Tier standards.
- Requirements: A full UK driving licence and the willingness to undergo security checks. (Sponsorship not available and you must be eligible to work in the UK)
