Job DescriptionJob Description
Artemis Imaging operates a dedicated Koning Vera Breast CT (KBCT) imaging center in the heart of Katy, Texas, at Katy Medical Plaza on Grand Parkway 99. The center is built around one of the most advanced breast imaging platforms available today: The FDA PMA approved Koning Vera Breast CT system, which is the only commercially available, dedicated cone beam computed tomography scanner designed specifically to image the entire breast in a single scan without any form of compression. This device underwent and successfully completed all aspects of the FDA's rigorous Pre Market Approval (PMA) process, representing the highest bar of regulatory clearance for medical devices in the United States. The technology is protected by 120 patents and is backed by over 130 peer reviewed publications documenting its clinical performance.
The Koning Vera produces high contrast, true three dimensional images of the breast with exceptional spatial resolution. Unlike digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), which is sometimes marketed as "3D" but relies on a limited angle tomographic sweep and still requires compression, the Koning Vera acquires isotropic images, meaning the resulting scan can be viewed from any angle equally, with no overlapping structures obscuring the radiologist's view. The system captures hundreds of images in less than 10 seconds per breast, at radiation levels in the same range as a standard diagnostic mammogram. Clinically, the Koning Vera detects stage 0 and stage 1 cancers, identifies lesions as small as 2mm, and resolves calcifications as small as 200 microns, making it particularly effective for women with dense breast tissue where traditional mammography misses up to 70% of cancers. Peer reviewed studies have demonstrated a combined sensitivity of 98.43% and specificity of 98.85% for calcification detection on breast CBCT images. Additional clinical research has shown diagnostic performance comparable to breast MRI, with substantial inter reader agreement.
Artemis Imaging operates on a transparent, cash pay model with multiple flexible payment options, eliminating insurance barriers and enabling the team to dedicate its full attention to clinical quality, patient comfort, and workflow efficiency. Teleradiology partners handle all image interpretation, so the on site clinical team is entirely focused on performing examinations and delivering an outstanding patient experience. The center utilizes Athenahealth EHR for patient records, an enterprise grade PACS system for secure image management and rapid teleradiology transmission, and a real time analytics dashboard for tracking clinical and operational performance.
Why This Role Is Different
-
No compression, no pain.
-
True three dimensional imaging, not simulated 3D.
-
Clinical versatility from a single platform. The Koning Vera is a multifunctional device capable of diagnostic breast CT, contrast enhanced imaging when clinically indicated, and 3D guided biopsy with an average procedure time of approximately 15 minutes and a 50% reduction in biopsy imaging dose compared to stereotactic biopsy. Technologists gain hands on experience across multiple clinical applications without switching equipment or rooms.
-
Cash pay simplicity. There are no insurance authorizations, denied claims, or billing disputes to manage. Patients complete their payment plan before their appointment through a streamlined online portal with automatic notifications. The technologist's role is imaging and patient care, not administrative paperwork.
-
Established technology, growing footprint. The Koning Vera has been installed in over 25 facilities globally, with clinical sites operating in Atlanta, GA; Birmingham, AL; Knoxville, TN; Little Rock, AR; and New York City, NY, among others. The American Medical Association established 6 dedicated CPT codes for Breast CT effective January 2021. Breast CT is a validated, expanding modality, not an experimental concept.
-
Boutique outpatient environment. The imaging suite at Katy Medical Plaza is purpose built for the KBCT workflow, with a dedicated imaging room , private consultation areas, strong digital infrastructure, and convenient parking. The small team environment means technologists have a direct voice in shaping workflows, patient experience standards, and clinical protocols.
-
Growth trajectory. The company's strategic plan calls for expansion to at least four facilities across the Houston metropolitan area, each equipped with a minimum of two Koning Breast CT machines.
What You Will Do
-
Operate the Koning Vera Breast CT (CBCT1000 Vera Complete) system to perform bilateral and unilateral breast CT examinations, contrast enhanced imaging procedures, and 3D guided biopsy procedures according to established clinical protocols and Koning manufacturer guidelines
-
Position patients comfortably in the prone position on the KBCT patient table, ensuring the breast is properly centered within the imaging aperture for optimal field of view coverage (up to 34cm longitudinally, including the chest wall) and that the patient remains still during the sub 10 second scan acquisition
-
Educate each patient thoroughly about the examination process before beginning the scan, explaining that no compression is involved, describing the prone positioning, and walking them through what they will see, hear, and feel during the approximately 7 second rotation of the imaging gantry around the breast. This education is especially important for patients transitioning from traditional mammography and those who may have previously avoided screening due to pain or anxiety associated with compression
-
Verify patient , review clinical history, and confirm appropriate clinical indications for breast CT imaging using the system prior to each examination
-
Review all acquired images for technical quality, including confirmation of artifact free acquisition, complete breast coverage, proper patient positioning, and adequate image contrast before transmitting study data to the PACS system for teleradiology interpretation
-
Upload completed studies to the enterprise grade PACS platform and coordinate with the teleradiology team using rapid image transfer protocols to ensure that clinical reports are delivered after image acquisition
-
Perform and document daily, weekly, and periodic quality control procedures on the KBCT system using the dedicated QA phantom provided by Koning, including dose verification, calibration checks, and system performance validation in accordance with Koning protocols and applicable state regulations
-
Maintain strict adherence to radiation safety standards and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles at all times, ensuring compliance with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) radiation control regulations. The Koning Vera's radiation dose has been measured by the FDA to be in the same range as diagnostic mammography
-
Monitor equipment performance on an ongoing basis, promptly reporting and coordinating any maintenance or service needs to minimize downtime, with a target of less than 2% unscheduled off hours per operating period
-
Participate in physician engagement activities including monthly lunch and learn sessions and facility tours designed to demonstrate the Koning Vera Breast CT technology to referring providers and build the center's referral network
-
Contribute to continuous improvement of clinical workflows, patient experience metrics (target: 4.5 or higher out of 5.0 satisfaction score), and operational key performance indicators tracked through the center's real time analytics dashboard
