Our client is a specialist MEP design consultancy delivering high-performance engineering solutions across hyperscale and colocation data-centre projects throughout Europe and the Middle East.

As part of their continued expansion, they are seeking an MEP Design Director / Head of Design to take ownership of the firm’s design function, leading technical delivery, aligning international teams, and building a high-performing engineering capability.

 

About the Role

The MEP Design Director will hold overall responsibility for MEP design across the business, providing strategic leadership, technical direction, and operational oversight.

You will lead Technical Directors and senior engineers, ensuring consistency, quality, and innovation across all projects.

This is a critical leadership role requiring a balance of hands-on technical credibility and the ability to build, scale, and shape a design function across multiple geographies.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and own the MEP design function across the business.
  • Provide strategic direction for engineering delivery across all projects.
  • Manage and mentor Technical Directors and senior discipline leads.
  • Align engineering teams across London and Dubai, ensuring consistency in standards, processes, and outputs.
  • Drive technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement across all disciplines.
  • Oversee resource planning, team structure, and capability development.
  • Act as a senior technical authority in client-facing environments, supporting key relationships and major project delivery.
  • Contribute to business growth through input into bids, proposals, and strategic planning.
  • Establish and maintain robust QA/QC processes and design governance frameworks.
  • Play a key role in shaping the future direction and growth of the consultancy.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline); Chartered status strongly preferred.
  • Significant experience (typically 15+ years) within MEP design, including mission-critical/data-centre environments.
  • Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary engineering teams at a senior level.
  • Strong track record in delivering complex, large-scale projects across multiple regions.
  • Deep understanding of MEP systems, design coordination, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience in building, scaling, or transforming engineering/design functions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
