MEP Project Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time | Exempt
Locations: Montgomery, AL or Monroe, LA (Relocation Assistance Available)
Travel: 0–25% to job sites and office locations
Compensation:
- Project Manager: $110,000 – $130,000
- Senior Project Manager: $125,000 – $155,000
- (Relocation assistance or $650/week living allowance available for traveling candidates)

Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an MEP Project Manager to lead large-scale mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and MEP construction projects, with a strong emphasis on data center construction experience.
This role is responsible for overseeing installation, financial performance, subcontractor coordination, field leadership, and client relationships for complex, high-value projects ($15M–$25M+). The ideal candidate has proven experience working for a mechanical subcontractor and has successfully delivered data center projects requiring precision, schedule discipline, and strict quality control standards.
Data center construction experience is required. Candidates must understand mission-critical environments, accelerated schedules, high-density MEP systems, and coordination with multiple trades in technically complex builds.
This position offers long-term project stability, including involvement in a major data center program extending through 2030.
Key Responsibilities
Data Center & MEP Project Leadership
- Lead installation and execution of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical systems for data center construction projects.
- Manage complex MEP scopes in mission-critical environments requiring strict uptime, precision coordination, and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with contract specifications, codes, safety standards, and accelerated project schedules.
- Coordinate closely with general contractors, owners, engineers, and internal teams to ensure seamless delivery.
Financial & Budget Management
- Establish and manage job costing (labor, material, subcontractor cost codes).
- Review estimates and ensure alignment with project budgets.
- Conduct monthly cost reviews and forecasting.
- Identify budget deviations and implement corrective actions.
- Drive projects to completion on time and under budget.
Vendor & Subcontractor Management
- Negotiate and execute vendor and subcontractor agreements.
- Review submittals and shop drawings for compliance with plans and specifications.
- Manage subcontractor performance, productivity, and accountability.
- Build long-term partnerships to support future data center and mission-critical work.
Field Operations & Team Leadership
- Oversee and mentor field personnel including foremen, superintendents, and trade workers.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
- Lead coordination meetings, site walks, and performance evaluations.
- Support workforce planning and labor allocation strategies.
Safety & Compliance
- Conduct safety meetings and incident investigations.
- Enforce OSHA and site-specific safety requirements.
- Ensure compliance with infection control standards for healthcare projects (when applicable).
- Implement risk mitigation strategies to prevent delays and cost overruns.
Reporting & Client Communication
- Prepare project schedules, reports, and performance updates.
- Document project milestones and field activity.
- Provide proactive communication to leadership and clients regarding risks, progress, and solutions.
- Serve as a key point of contact for owners and general contractors.
Required Qualifications
Experience
Project Manager:
- 5–10 years of MEP project management experience with a mechanical subcontractor.
- Experience managing large commercial or mission-critical projects valued at $15M–$25M.
Senior Project Manager:
- 10+ years of project management experience on large-scale commercial construction projects.
- Proven experience leading data center construction projects is strongly .
Required Experience:
- Mechanical subcontractor background (HVAC, piping, plumbing, MEP).
- Experience coordinating high-value, fast-paced construction projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems in mission-critical environments.
- Experience managing subcontractors, field labor, and complex budgets.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field .
- Equivalent field experience strongly considered.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Knowledge of MEP systems, contract structures, and construction best practices.
- Financial acumen with forecasting and cost control expertise.
