Job Title: MEP Quality Manager
Location: Alexandria, LA
Job Summary
Provides leadership, coordination, guidance, and technical expertise in all areas of quality, with a strong emphasis on MEP systems and mission-critical data center environments. Responsible for the daily operations of the project’s quality program, ensuring all quality policies, procedures, and practices are consistently implemented. Develops and administers quality-related processes, techniques, and initiatives to ensure all work—especially MEP and commissioning-critical scopes—meets or exceeds project requirements, industry standards, and stringent data-center owner expectations.
Primary Duties
- Works with project managers, superintendents, MEP coordinators, commissioning teams, and subcontractors to develop processes that achieve 100% compliant work in a mission-critical environment.
- Collaborates closely with MEP and low-voltage trade partners to ensure proper installation, testing, and documentation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, BMS/EPMS, and critical power systems.
- Acts as an advocate for Yates Construction by promoting quality and corporate ethics as core values.
- Maintains active relationships with engineers, commissioning agents, consultants, and industry associations relevant to data-center construction.
- Assists teams in developing project-specific Quality Management Plans, including data-center-specific MEP and commissioning requirements.
- Ensures project teams follow their Quality Management Plans and mission-critical quality protocols.
- Builds and maintains system templates for DFOW activities, including MEP DFOWs such as electrical distribution, UPS systems, generator installations, chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, and equipment startup procedures.
- Prepares DFOW documentation for MEP and mission-critical scopes as required.
- Conducts site visits and inspections of work in place, with a focus on MEP installations, equipment placement, system routing, and compliance with data-center standards.
- Assists teams with plan and constructability reviews, including MEP coordination drawings, BIM clash detection, and system integration for high-density environments.
- Reads and understands specifications, reference codes, and standards related to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, low-voltage, and mission-critical systems.
- Reviews and interprets contract drawings, including MEP shop drawings, submittals, commissioning plans, and equipment data sheets.
- Provides training and coaching to project teams to identify key quality risks, especially those associated with mission-critical MEP systems, redundancy requirements, and commissioning milestones.
- Assists teams with risk prevention planning for issues such as equipment lead times, installation tolerances, system testing, and energization sequencing.
- Works with the Quality and Construction Science Department to leverage technology (BIM, QA/QC software, testing tools) to reduce risk and improve MEP and data-center quality outcomes.
- Acts independently as CQCM while coordinating all QC functions without delaying construction schedules.
- Identifies, documents, and communicates deficiencies—including MEP and commissioning-related deficiencies—and ensures timely correction (NCR Log).
- Maintains accurate records providing factual evidence that required quality control activities and tests (e.g., pressure tests, megger tests, load bank tests, TAB reports, integrated systems testing) have been performed.
- Reviews MEP and mission-critical shop drawings and submittals for conformance with project specifications and contract requirements.
- Initiates and manages the three-phase inspection process for all MEP and mission-critical DFOW activities.
- Conducts daily observations to ensure all phases of inspection are implemented and documented.
- Examines work areas to confirm MEP and critical-system installations meet contract requirements and resolves discrepancies.
- Conducts and chairs Preparatory Meetings for MEP and mission-critical DFOW activities.
- Chairs and documents weekly QC meetings with internal teams, subcontractor quality representatives, commissioning partners, and external stakeholders.
- Verifies and documents that all materials received—including MEP equipment, critical power components, and IT infrastructure—are in conformance with approved submittals and properly stored.
- Oversees daily and weekly QC/QA reports, reinforcing that MEP and mission-critical work is constructed in conformance with established standards.
- Supports continuous improvement by identifying trends, recommending corrective actions, and sharing lessons learned across data-center projects.

- Reports incidents, near hits, and hazards.
- Wears and maintains required PPE.
- Advises fellow employees of hazardous situations, including energized equipment, confined spaces, and pressurized systems common in data centers.
- Participates in inspections, training, and safety meetings.
- Assists with administering the site safety program and ensuring trade partner compliance with OSHA standards and Yates Site Specific Requirements.
Qualifications
- Associate or undergraduate degree in Quality Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field .
- Equivalent education, training, or experience may substitute for a degree.
- Minimum of three (3) years of construction experience in quality control supervision.
- Minimum of five (5) years of industrial, commercial, or mission-critical construction experience, including exposure to MEP systems.
- Experience implementing large or complex quality plans, preferably on data-center or MEP-intensive projects.
Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of Construction Standards and Best Practices, including MEP and mission-critical installation standards.
- Working knowledge of the International Building Code and relevant mechanical, electrical, and plumbing codes.
- Experience with diverse project types and MEP system configurations, especially those used in data centers (UPS, generators, chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC, BMS/EPMS).
- Proficiency with Procore, Viewpoint, SharePoint, MS Office, and QA/QC or MEP coordination tools.
