Enclosure Builder (MIG Welding & Fabrication)
Location: Itasca, IL
Pay Rate: $22–$30/hour
Schedule:
- Standard: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Often adjusted to: 5:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Monday–Friday)
Overtime: 20+ hours per week (when fully ramped up)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (6 months)
Start Date: ASAP
About the Role
We are hiring Enclosure Builders to support increasing demand for large-scale industrial and data center enclosures. This is a hands-on fabrication role, ideal for skilled welders who take pride in precision work and building from detailed mechanical blueprints.
This position focuses on custom fabrication and MIG welding, not repetitive or high-volume production. Candidates will be involved in layout, measuring, cutting, fitting, welding, and assembling large enclosure components to tight tolerances.
This is a long-term contract-to-hire opportunity with consistent overtime and strong job stability.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication & Welding
- Perform MIG welding on sheet metal and structural steel components used in custom enclosures
- Fit, assemble, and weld parts according to mechanical blueprints and drawings
- Weld to tight tolerances while maintaining high-quality standards
- Perform layout, cutting, and fitting of materials prior to welding
Blueprint Reading & Measurement
- Read and interpret complex mechanical blueprints and assembly drawings
- Measure and verify dimensions using tape measures, calipers, and micrometers
- Ensure proper alignment, fit-up, and structural integrity of assemblies
Tools & Equipment
- Operate fabrication tools including saws, drills, grinders, and power tools
- Safely use overhead cranes and material-handling equipment (forklift/crane experience a plus)
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of hands-on fabrication or welding experience (5+ years )
- Strong experience with MIG welding in a fabrication setting (not high-volume production)
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints
- Experience measuring and fabricating to tolerance
- Comfortable using fabrication tools and equipment
- Willingness to work extended hours, including overtime and occasional Saturdays
- Comfortable with a contract-to-hire role
- TIG welding experience
- Experience building large enclosures or industrial equipment
- Forklift or overhead crane experience/certification
- Background in OEM or custom machine build environments
