Position Overview

This Network Engineer position supports the Army Edge Computing Capability (AECC) project fielded by ALTESS for the US Army. The AECC solution is a hyperconverged, multitenant private cloud environment hosting enterprise and tactical applications via a Software Defined Data Center (SDDC). The successful candidate will work within the VMware Suite (NSX, vSphere, ARIA) to develop and maintain a scalable, secure network architecture, utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for deployment and sustainment.

Mandatory Certifications

  • DoD 8570.01-M Foundational: Security+ (or equivalent IA Tech Level II certification)

Key Responsibilities

  • Architecture & IaC: Work with Government engineers to develop the AECC architecture and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for automated network deployment and sustainment.
  • Provisioning: Utilize IaC to provision network foundations for customer enclaves as applications are onboarded to the AECC solution.
  • Administration: Provide daily administration, including patching, upgrading, and monitoring the health and utilization of all network components.
  • Security & Hardening: Harden the network according to commercial best practices and required government cybersecurity controls (STIGs/IAVM).
  • Troubleshooting: Perform root cause analysis for complex hosting platform issues across the entire technology stack.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain high-quality system diagrams, network topologies, software configurations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Required Technical Skills

  • Network Engineering: 5+ years of experience in enterprise networking (LAN/WAN, routing, switching, TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and MPLS).
  • VMware Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in VMware NSX design, deployment, and management.
  • Hardware Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco Routers, and Cisco Nexus/Catalyst switches.
  • Automation/IaC: Strong skills in network automation tools (Ansible, Terraform) and scripting (Python, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Virtualization Stack: Familiarity with the VMware Suite, including vSphere, ESXi, vSAN, and ARIA Automation.

Skills & Experience

  • Compliance: Working knowledge of DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and IAVM processes.
  • Cloud & Containers: Understanding of Kubernetes networking (CNI), storage (CSI) principles, and hands-on experience with container platforms.
  • DevOps/GitOps: Experience with GitOps tools (Argo CD, Flux) and managing applications using Helm charts.
  • Modern Orchestration: Experience maintaining container images in a registry and managing container orchestration.

Salary Range: $135,000 – $155,000 per year
