Night Shift Supervisor

About Hartwell

Hartwell Manufacturing is a family-run engineering business with nearly 50 years of experience delivering high-quality acoustic enclosures and heavy steel fabrication projects. From our Ossett headquarters, we support clients in the power, data centre and industrial sectors with engineered solutions built on precision, collaboration and reliability. The culture is hands-on, team-focused and proud of the work we produce.

As part of our continued growth and expansion, we are introducing a dedicated night shift at our Ecclesfield site and creating a new opportunity for an experienced Night Shift Supervisor to lead the team.

The Role

The Ecclesfield facility is fully dedicated to the manufacture of acoustic enclosures used across critical, high-integrity industries. With demand increasing, we’re looking for a confident, organised and quality-driven Supervisor who can take ownership of night-shift output, support and guide a skilled fabrication workforce, and maintain the standards Hartwell is known for.

This is a hands-on leadership position: you’ll balance oversight with practical involvement, ensuring work flows smoothly, safely and to the required level of precision.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, support and coordinate a team of Welders and Fabricators during night-shift operations
• Ensure all work meets technical drawings, specifications and quality requirements
• Maintain a safe working environment and reinforce best practice across lifting, welding and fabrication activities
• Monitor workflow, resolve bottlenecks and communicate effectively with the day-shift team to ensure continuity
• Provide guidance and coaching to less-experienced team members
• Liaise with management where required on progress, issues, resource needs and improvements
• Uphold Hartwell’s values of cooperation, integrity and taking pride in the work

What You’ll Bring

• Strong background in fabrication and/or welding, ideally within structural steel or enclosure manufacturing
• Previous supervisory, team-lead or chargehand experience
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings with confidence
• Calm, organised approach with good decision-making skills
• A leadership style that supports people, builds capability and ensures accountability
• Commitment to quality, safety and consistent workmanship

What the Role Offers

• Night shift, Monday to Thursday: 12-hour shifts
• Overtime opportunities on Fridays
• A stable, permanent leadership position in a growing business
• The chance to shape and develop a newly formed night-shift team
• A supportive, family-owned environment where skilled work is genuinely valued
