Job Overview

The NOC Transport Technician II is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing customer and internal network infrastructures, with a focus on managed IT services and network reliability. This position serves as a Level 2 escalation point for complex issues across core transport, managed service clients, and data center systems.

Network Operations

  • Monitor, analyze, and maintain network transport systems (SD-WAN, MPLS, SIP, LAN/WAN).
  • Implement, configure, and maintain Fortinet, Cisco, Adtran, and Meraki network equipment.
  • Manage VLANs, DHCP pools, and routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.
  • Configure and maintain network templates, inventory records, and CPE configurations.
  • Perform proactive maintenance, system updates, and preventative checks on customers and internal equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal teams for escalations, updates, and implementation projects.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including network diagrams, methods of procedure, and ticket notes.
  • Build and manage WAN failover solutions.
  • Configure and test CPE, including routers, firewalls, switches, and access points.

Managed Services

  • Serve as a customer-facing technical resource for managed service requests.
  • Support customer systems, including firewalls, servers, and backups (Veeam, Fortinet).
  • Administer and support Microsoft 365 environments, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive.
  • Manage cloud storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain virtual servers.
  • Assist with data migrations and storage optimization initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of managed service processes and documentation.

Trouble Tickets & Escalations

  • Work Level 2 trouble tickets and order tasks through applicable systems.
  • Provide detailed notes on troubleshooting steps, test results, and resolutions.
  • Maintain workload and productivity metrics, with tickets and tasks measured weekly.

Shared Responsibilities

  • Participate in an on-call rotation - each rotation is a full calendar week
  • Monitor core network elements, network performance, and facilities for service issues
  • Perform remote troubleshooting while maintaining a positive and professional manner at all times in high-stress situations
  • Participate in a call queue and receive repair calls and provide status to customers on a regular basis
  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance checks on core network elements
  • Make recommendations for process and procedure improvement
  • Create and maintain methods of procedure

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in CIS, MIS, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Network+ certification .

Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in voice and data troubleshooting, Cisco routing and switching, and network infrastructure.
  • VoIP experience .

Knowledge & Skills

  • Intermediate understanding of TCP/IP, OSI model, and LAN/WAN technologies.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), VLANs, DHCP, SIP, and MPLS.
  • Familiarity with ZTP portals of various VOIP Endpoints.
  • Familiarity with Adtran, Cisco, Fortinet, and Meraki hardware.
  • Proficiency with command line interfaces.
