About the Role

The Machinist is responsible for supporting plant operations by machining, repairing, and fabricating components to maintain and improve equipment reliability. This role operates within the Maintenance Department while also partnering closely with Engineering to assist in fixture, tooling design, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate combines hands-on machining expertise with problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach.

What You’ll Do

Machining & Fabrication

  • Operate manual and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, etc.) to produce precision parts.
  • Fabricate, modify, and repair machine components, tooling, and fixtures.
    Interpret blueprints, sketches, CAD drawings, and specifications to determine machining processes.
  • Select appropriate materials, tooling, and cutting parameters to achieve required tolerances and finishes.

Maintenance Support

  • Support maintenance team with repair and rebuild of production equipment components.
  • Perform emergency machining and fabrication to minimize downtime.
  • Assist with troubleshooting mechanical issues and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain machine shop equipment in safe and working condition.

Engineering & Tooling Support

  • Collaborate with Engineering on fixture design, prototyping, and tooling improvements.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of jigs, fixtures, and production aids.
  • Provide feedback on manufacturability and design for machining.
  • Produce prototype parts and assist in testing and validation activities.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency.
  • Contribute to cost reduction through innovative tooling and repair methods.
  • Assist with implementation of lean manufacturing practices within machining and maintenance activities.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, dimensions, and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and quality requirements.
  • Follow all PPE and safety guidelines while operating equipment.

Additional Expectations

  • Maintain awareness of individual contribution to quality, safety, environmental, and compliance standards.
  • Report on all quality issues, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel immediately.
  • Collaborate effectively across teams to ensure workflow efficiency and alignment with project timelines.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.

What You’ll Bring

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certification in machining or related field .
  • 3+ years of machining experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment .
  • Experience supporting maintenance or repair operations is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with manual machining equipment; CNC experience a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of tolerances, fits, materials, and machining processes.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software ( but not required).
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude.
