PCB Repair / Debug Technician
Memphis, TN
Monday – Friday | 40 hours/week + overtime as needed
Pay: $35/hour
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled PCB Repair / Debug Technician to support the transfer and ramp-up of multiple high-volume SMT production lines from our Mexico facility to Memphis. This role will play a critical part in establishing advanced board-level debug and true component-level repair capabilities for complex server and data center hardware.
This is not a board-swap or tester-only position. We are specifically seeking technicians who can diagnose failures down to the component level and perform precise soldering and rework to recover high-value assemblies.
Candidates who are open to short-term travel to our Mexico facility (approximately 6–8 weeks) to learn existing processes prior to equipment relocation will be strongly . All travel, accommodations, and per diem will be fully covered. However, travel is not required for consideration.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced board-level troubleshooting and component-level debug and repair on complex multilayer PCBAs
- Diagnose and repair failures across CPU, GPU, FPGA, ASIC, memory, and power subsystems without defaulting to full board replacement
- Troubleshoot high-speed digital, mixed-signal, and power distribution circuits using schematics, layout files, and diagnostic tools
- Utilize advanced test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and power analyzers to isolate faults to the component level
- Perform hands-on soldering and rework, including removal and replacement of fine-pitch components and BGAs using proper thermal profiles
- Use X-ray and other inspection methods to validate solder joints and rework quality
- Analyze POST codes, BIOS logs, boundary scan results, and other diagnostics to pinpoint root causes
- Conduct root cause failure analysis and identify trends to reduce recurring defects and improve yield
- Partner closely with engineering to refine debug and repair methodologies for scalability and repeatability
- Develop and maintain detailed debug guides, repair procedures, and diagnostic documentation
- Track yield, repair cycle time, and failure trends to support continuous improvement initiatives
- Support installation, validation, and optimization of SMT, test, and rework equipment during line transfer
- Ensure strict adherence to ESD, safety, and quality standards when handling high-value electronic assemblies
- Mentor junior technicians in component-level troubleshooting and soldering best practices
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in hands-on PCB repair and component-level troubleshooting
- Proven ability to diagnose faults and repair boards at the component level (not just replace entire assemblies)
- Strong soldering and rework skills, including fine-pitch components and BGA rework
- Experience with server, storage, networking, or other high-performance computing hardware
- Deep understanding of board-level electronics, including power architecture and signal integrity fundamentals
- Experience debugging DDR memory, PCIe interfaces, and high-speed interconnects
- Ability to read and interpret complex schematics and PCB layout files
- Proficiency with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other electronic test equipment
- Experience in SMT or high-volume electronics manufacturing environments strongly
Travel (, Not Required)
- Opportunity to travel to our Mexico facility for approximately 6–8 weeks to support knowledge transfer and process training prior to equipment relocation
- All travel, lodging, and meals/per diem will be fully covered
- Candidates who are unable or prefer not to travel will still be considered
Why Join
- Be a key contributor in standing up a major SMT manufacturing operation in Memphis
- Work with cutting-edge server and data center technologies
- High-impact role with strong visibility to engineering and operations leadership
- Opportunity to influence repair strategy and move away from costly board-level scrap
