Plant Utilities Technician

This position is responsible for the maintenance, operation, monitoring, and testing of plant mechanical and automated utility systems, including cooling towers, water treatment systems, air compressors, steam boilers, and fire pumps. This is a skilled, non-entry-level position requiring technical expertise and experience with industrial utilities and equipment reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and test all plant utility systems (boilers, compressors, cooling towers, fire pumps, and water systems).
  • Monitor and record system performance, pressures, temperatures, and water quality for compliance with operating standards.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on mechanical and automated equipment.
  • Support maintenance mechanics and electricians with changeouts, repairs, and installations.
  • Conduct safety inspections, fire system checks, and hazardous waste handling in accordance with company policy.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of utility areas.
  • Complete logs, maintenance reports, and system documentation accurately.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade certification .
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience with industrial utility systems (boilers, compressed air, water treatment, or mechanical plant operations).
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, gauges, and instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with water chemistry testing and treatment control systems .
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and regulatory compliance in an industrial environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to stand, walk, climb, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in hot, cold, or noisy environments as part of daily duties.
