Principal Electrical Engineer: Here's Where You'll Make an Impact

At Sequoyah Electric, our engineers partner with construction teams and clients to deliver practical, buildable design-build solutions.

We're seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer with experience in MEP consulting, design-build construction, or an A/E environment. This role combines technical leadership, complex building electrical system design, mentorship, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate has experience designing power distribution and electrical infrastructure for commercial, multifamily residential, high-rise or other complex facilities. If you're passionate about building systems, constructability, and design-build delivery, we'd love to meet you.

How You'll Make an Impact

Lead Complex Building Electrical Designs

  • Lead the design of electrical systems for commercial, multifamily residential, high-rise, healthcare, and other complex building projects.
  • Serve as a technical authority for power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, and emergency power systems.
  • Provide engineering direction from concept through construction while balancing performance, cost, schedule, and constructability.
  • Review and approve electrical calculations, drawings, specifications, and other technical deliverables.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes, client requirements, and project objectives.

Drive Design-Build Excellence

  • Partner closely with estimating, project management, prefabrication, and field operations teams throughout project development and execution.
  • Identify opportunities to improve constructability, reduce risk, increase labor efficiency, and optimize project outcomes.
  • Evaluate alternative design approaches that create value for customers and improve project competitiveness.
  • Collaborate on procurement strategies, construction sequencing, and execution planning.
  • Support preconstruction efforts by identifying innovative and cost-effective solutions.

Elevate Technical Standards

  • Champion engineering quality, consistency, and continuous improvement across the department.
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, workflows, design guides, and quality control processes.
  • Lead design reviews focused on code compliance, accuracy, constructability, and risk mitigation.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and electrical code requirements.
  • Promote best practices that improve project outcomes and engineering efficiency.

Mentor and Develop Engineering Talent

  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical leadership to engineers and designers.
  • Support professional development and knowledge sharing across the engineering team.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Help build future engineering leaders through hands-on guidance and technical expertise.
  • Encourage creative problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Partner with Clients and Project Teams

  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, partners, and project stakeholders.
  • Participate in project interviews, customer meetings, and technical presentations.
  • Collaborate with architects, consultants, owners, contractors, and internal teams throughout project delivery.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly while developing practical solutions to project challenges.
  • Represent Sequoyah's engineering expertise with professionalism and credibility.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • 10+ years of electrical engineering experience focused on building power systems and electrical infrastructure design.
  • Experience in MEP consulting, design-build construction, or an Architecture & Engineering (A/E) environment.
  • Experience designing electrical power distribution systems for commercial, multifamily residential, high-rise or similar facilities.
  • Experience supporting design-build project delivery from concept through construction and project execution.
  • Strong understanding of electrical system design, power distribution, electrical calculations, equipment selection, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of the Electrical Code (NEC), International Building Code (IBC), and applicable energy codes.
  • Experience producing and reviewing construction documents, electrical calculations, and technical specifications.
  • Experience collaborating with architects, contractors, owners, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proficiency with Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record (EOR).
  • Experience supporting preconstruction efforts, estimating reviews, and project pursuits.
  • Experience with construction administration, RFIs, submittals, field coordination, and site observations.
  • Experience designing electrical systems for industrial, data centers, advanced technology facilities, life sciences, medium-voltage systems, or other complex building environments.

The candidate must possess and be adaptable to the following physical abilities and working conditions:

Salary Range: $170,000 – 225,000 per year. Opportunity for partnership share.
