Position Summary
MEI is seeking an accomplished Principal Electrical Engineer to lead complex electrical design efforts across a portfolio of high-profile projects. This role requires both technical depth and strategic leadership, with a focus on data centers, industrial facilities, and other large commercial developments.
The Principal Electrical Engineer will serve as a technical authority, project leader, and mentor, ensuring the successful delivery of innovative, code-compliant, and cost-effective solutions. This position involves regular collaboration with MEI staff, clients, vendors, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities

Serve as the lead electrical engineer on major projects, setting technical direction and ensuring design excellence.

Perform and oversee complex electrical system design and calculations for power distribution, lighting, standby , and control systems.

Review, sign, and seal engineering drawings and specifications.

Provide quality assurance and technical oversight for submittals, RFIs, change orders, record drawings, and construction administration.

Conduct site observations, inspections, and participate in commissioning activities.

Develop and maintain technical standards, guidelines, and best practices for electrical design.

Write and edit equipment specifications, select systems and devices, and coordinate with other design disciplines.

Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring technical accuracy and on-time delivery.

Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineering staff.

Support business development and client engagement, including technical presentations and proposal input.
Minimum Qualifications
-
10+ years of professional electrical engineering design experience in the construction industry.

Valid P.E. license (Electrical) required.

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree ).

Proven experience leading electrical design for data centers, industrial facilities, commercial buildings, or similar large-scale projects.

Strong knowledge of NFPA Standards, NEC, and international and building codes.

Advanced expertise in power distribution, standby and emergency systems, and generator control systems.

Demonstrated experience producing Protective Device Coordination and Arc Flash studies.

Proficiency with Medium Voltage equipment selection and specification .

Strategic thinker with the ability to influence technical direction and support long-range organizational goals.

Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills.

Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, BlueBeam, BIM, and Revit.
