Principal Electrical Engineer

Location: London, UK (Head Office with European project exposure)
Salary: Competitive + benefits package

Join a rapidly growing engineering consultancy shaping the future of mission-critical infrastructure.

Our client is a specialist engineering consultancy delivering advanced Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) design for high-density, high-reliability environments.

They offer deep technical capability in areas such as electrical network analysis, computational modelling, and full BIM-coordinated design, supporting major hyperscale and colocation data-centre projects across Europe and the Middle East.

As they continue to scale, they are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design delivery, manage multidisciplinary teams, and help drive the firm's continued growth in mission-critical sectors.

About the Role

The Principal Electrical Engineer will hold responsibility for leading electrical engineering strategy and technical output across large, complex projects. You will provide senior technical oversight, coordinate closely with wider disciplines, ensure compliance with industry standards, and represent the consultancy in client-facing environments throughout all design and delivery stages.

This is a senior leadership opportunity requiring deep technical expertise, strong project management capability, and the confidence to guide teams delivering highly resilient engineering systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design across major mission-critical and data-centre projects from concept to commissioning.
  • Deliver robust electrical distribution, resilience, protection and redundancy strategies to meet stringent performance requirements.
  • Produce and review detailed technical documentation, including schematics, load studies, calculations, protection coordination, specifications and design reports.
  • Work closely with mechanical, sustainability, BIM and specialist modelling teams to deliver integrated MEP solutions.
  • Manage and mentor electrical engineers, supporting technical development and resource planning.
  • Attend and lead client meetings, workshops and design reviews, acting as a senior technical representative.
  • Support fee proposals, bid responses, resourcing plans and engineering strategy discussions.
  • Conduct site inspections, respond to technical queries and ensure design intent is maintained during construction and commissioning.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, compliance and quality assurance across all outputs.
  • Contribute to internal standards, processes and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline); Chartered or working towards chartership strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in electrical building services design, ideally including mission-critical, industrial or data-centre environments.
  • Strong knowledge of LV/HV distribution, UPS systems, generators, switchgear, earthing, fault-level analysis and resilience planning.
  • Experience delivering multidisciplinary projects through all design stages, including construction and commissioning.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, coordinate stakeholders and manage technical delivery.
  • Excellent understanding of industry regulations, design standards and best-practice engineering principles.
  • Strong communication and client-management skills with an ability to present complex engineering concepts clearly.

Why Apply?

This is a rare opportunity to join a sophisticated, fast-growing consultancy delivering some of the most technically demanding mission-critical projects in Europe.

You will lead electrical engineering strategy, work with high-performance teams, influence major design decisions and play a key role in shaping the firm’s future in the data-centre engineering sector.
