Overview
We are representing a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy for the built environment. They are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their London Building Services Engineering team. Current Projects
The team is currently delivering a range of notable projects, including a large-scale data centre overseas and a £100 million commercial project in England, alongside automotive, retail, and residential projects. This variety ensures exposure to complex engineering challenges and opportunities to make a tangible impact on high-value projects.
The Role
As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the delivery of medium to large-scale mechanical projects while mentoring and managing project-specific teams.
Key responsibilities include:
Completing surveys and site inspections and undertaking mechanical design calculations
Preparing drawings, technical specifications, and reports
Peer reviewing and checking designs prepared by others
Managing project-specific teams of engineers and support staff
Allocating and overseeing project workloads to ensure efficiency and quality
Managing client relationships and commercial aspects of projects, including budgets and costs
Identifying additional opportunities within existing and new client relationships
Contributing to the professional development of team members through mentoring and PDRs
You will work across a full range of mechanical systems, including HVAC (including clean/dry rooms), heating, cooling, steam, compressed air, BMS, hot and cold water, and foul drainage.
About You
The ideal candidate will be a Chartered Engineer (CEng – CIBSE or IMechE) with:
At least 10 years’ post-graduate experience in UK-based building services consultancy
Proven ability to deliver complex mechanical engineering projects
Strong technical knowledge and client-facing communication skills
Experience mentoring and managing teams of engineers
Proficiency in Revit MEP, NBS, and EDSL Tas/IES VE
Experience with steam systems and clean/dry room environments (desirable)
