Principal BMS Engineer London (Hybrid) £80K - £90K Permanent
Vantage Consulting is recruiting on behalf of a leading global engineering consultancy operating across the UK and internationally, specialising in mission-critical and data centre environments.
We are seeking an experienced Principal BMS Engineer to provide technical leadership across Building Management Systems (BMS), ensuring best-in-class design delivery and integration across complex building services environments.
Role Overview
Reporting to the BMS Controls Associate Director, you will play a key technical leadership role within the BMS function, supporting the design and delivery of high-quality, fully coordinated control systems across major projects.
You will act as a subject matter expert, ensuring robust integration of BMS with associated systems including access control, security, fire systems, and client IT networks, while maintaining a strong focus on mechanical and electrical building services.
This is a hands-on role working closely with internal engineering teams, clients, and external consultants to drive innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement across project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Produce BMS design documentation, drawings, and specifications
Lead client meetings, workshops, and technical presentations
Undertake site inspections and witness testing activities
Coordinate multidisciplinary design development with internal and external stakeholders
Present design progress at key project milestones
Attend tender interviews and technical reviews
Review contractor submissions, including technical documentation and O&M manuals
Maintain client-specific standards and technical requirements
Manage design deliverables in line with project programmes
Support innovation and continuous improvement across BMS design
Mentor and support junior engineers within the team
Ensure high-quality, fully coordinated engineering outputs
The Ideal Candidate
Strong background in BMS engineering within consultancy or complex project environments
Experience integrating BMS with systems such as access control, security, fire, and IT networks
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and building services systems
Ability to take ownership of full BMS design and justify technical decisions
Experience working with design standards and technical specifications
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Collaborative approach with ability to work independently and within global teams
Knowledge of sustainable building design and low-carbon technologies
Experience with IT networking systems within building environments
