Procurement Specialist

Summary

Our Cary, NC is seeking a Junior Procurement Specialist to support sourcing and purchasing activities for fast‑paced EPC projects in the Life Sciences and Advanced Technology sectors. This role works closely with Procurement, Project Services, Engineering, and Construction teams to assist with RFQ processes, vendor communication, purchase order administration, and expediting. This is an entry-level role designed for candidates beginning their procurement career within a project-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing and issuing RFQs / ITB packages to suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Collect and organize vendor quotations, ensuring timely receipt and proper documentation.
  • Support basic commercial evaluations by comparing pricing, delivery terms, and scope coverage.
  • Help prepare Recommendation‑to‑Award materials for review by senior procurement staff.
  • Draft and issue purchase orders under guidance from senior procurement team members.
  • Verify order acknowledgements and ensure pricing and delivery information are accurate.
  • Evaluate and execute purchase order changes.
  • Serve as a point of contact for routine supplier questions.
  • Maintain vendor records and update the supplier database.
  • Support qualification efforts by collecting supplier documentation and certifications.
  • Monitor equipment status, track deliveries, and update internal reporting tools.
  • Report potential lead‑time issues to senior procurement staff.
  • Assist in organizing procurement files, bid tabs, correspondence, and audit documentation.
  • Assist in vendor document management.
  • Help with invoice routing and basic invoice review.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, engineering, or related field (, not required).
  • 0–3 years’ experience in procurement, supply chain, purchasing, or project coordination.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Familiarity with RFQ/RFP processes.
  • Exposure to ERP systems (e.g., Deltek, Oracle, JDE, etc.).
  • Interest in procurement within a technical project environment (biotech/pharmaceutical facilities experience is a plus, not required).
