H9 Talent Solutions is partnering with a leading international data centre developer and operator to hire a Data Centre Project Director to lead the delivery of hyperscale and large scale projects across the UK.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for the full lifecycle delivery of complex, mission critical facilities from pre construction through commissioning and handover.

The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise, commercial acumen and experience delivering high value data centre builds

Overview

The Data Centre Project Director will take full accountability for programme execution, contractor performance, budget control, risk mitigation and stakeholder management across multiple concurrent projects.

You will act as the senior delivery lead, interfacing with internal executive leadership, investors, hyperscale clients, consultants and Tier 1 contractors.

Role and Responsibilities

Project & Programme Leadership

  • Lead the end to end delivery of hyperscale data centre projects (£100m+ CAPEX typical)
  • Oversee programme management from design development through construction and commissioning
  • Ensure delivery to schedule, budget and technical specification
  • Drive risk management, quality assurance and governance processes

Commercial & Contract Management

  • Manage Tier 1 contractors and key supply chain partners
  • Oversee procurement strategy and contract negotiations (EPC, design & build, construction management models)
  • Control project budgets, cashflow and cost reporting
  • Lead value engineering and commercial optimisation initiatives

Technical & Operational Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with mission critical design standards (power, cooling, redundancy)
  • Oversee commissioning strategy and handover to operations teams
  • Monitor health & safety and regulatory compliance
  • Ensure adherence to sustainability and energy efficiency targets

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as primary senior interface with hyperscale clients and investors
  • Present regular progress reports to executive leadership and board
  • Manage relationships with consultants, engineers, utilities providers and local authorities

Experience and Qualifications

  • 15+ years’ experience delivering large scale infrastructure or mission critical projects
  • Demonstrated experience delivering hyperscale or data centres in the UK or Europe
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems (HV/MV power, cooling, redundancy systems)
  • Experience managing projects with £100m - £500m+ CAPEX
  • Proven track record of leading Tier 1 contractors

Desirable

  • Background in engineering (electrical / mechanical )
  • Experience with fast track construction environments
  • Familiarity with UK planning and utilities processes
  • Exposure to renewable energy integration or sustainable design initiatives
