Primary Location: Ontario, California

Position Type: Field-based with up to 75% travel

Accepting Candidates From: Ontario and Sacramento, CA areas

Job Summary:

The Project Estimator provides direct support in the ongoing development of existing and prospective customers. Build a scope of work and bill of materials based on customer requirements and estimate labor to perform the proposed solution.

Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to): Attends job walks at various job sites to determine the materials, time and staffing required to complete a job

  • Analyzes requirement documents, blueprints, and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project
  • Determines what factors of production will influence the cost of a service
  • Provides technical information and explanations; preparing Bills of Material, Scopes of work, and labor estimates
  • Creates labor estimates for any project
  • Develops and maintains relationships with company vendors and contractors
  • Manages bids from vendors and contractors
  • Uses bid data to prepare detailed cost analysis
  • Presents prepared estimates to management and other stakeholders
  • Compiles and records actual costs
  • Contacts vendors and conducts price comparisons in order to pull together the best materials for the best price to get the job done
  • Provides an estimate of labor hours and makes a recommendation for man power to get the job done efficiently and in a timely manner while also being cost effective
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent (bachelor’s degree )
  • Possess excellent working knowledge of construction and contract terminology.
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge and experience using computer equipment and related software (Excel, Word, Scheduling Software, HCSS Heavy Bid, etc.)
  • Ability to do statistical analysis, percentages, profit calculations, ratios, budget forecasts.
  • Ability to calculate figures, discounts, percentages, ratios, proportions, fractions, do estimates, etc.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret RFPs, trade journals, contracts, financial reports, job documents and prints, operating manuals, safety rules & regulations, training manuals, etc.
  • Ability to effectively write contracts, bid documents, RFIs, business reports, letters, technical procedures, business correspondence, manuals, policies and procedures, job evaluations, etc.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, employees, customers, and public groups.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral and written).
  • Must be a self-starter and internally motivated to achieve corporate, department, and personal objectives.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The employee is regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, speak, and hear.

  • The employee is frequently required to walk.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision and Distance vision.
