Project Manager - Data Center Commissioning (Cx)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Data Center Commissioning (Cx) to lead complex commissioning projects from design through final turnover. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, takes ownership of project outcomes, and enjoys working alongside highly skilled technical teams delivering mission-critical infrastructure.

Project Leadership

  • Lead commissioning projects from pre-construction through final turnover and client acceptance.
  • Manage all phases of the project lifecycle, including planning, execution, commissioning, closeout, and documentation.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities across multiple disciplines and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Commissioning & Technical Leadership

  • Oversee Level 1 through Level 5 commissioning activities.
  • Lead functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, issue resolution, and final system validation.
  • Review commissioning plans, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Identify project risks, commissioning challenges, and technical issues early to minimize impacts.
  • Ensure compliance with client requirements and commissioning best practices.

Data Center Systems

  • Manage commissioning activities involving:
  • Electrical distribution systems
  • Mechanical and HVAC systems
  • UPS systems
  • Backup generators
  • Cooling infrastructure
  • Building automation systems
  • Mission-critical support systems

Project Controls & Technology

  • Utilize Facility Grid software for project management, commissioning documentation, issue tracking, reporting, and project closeout.
  • Monitor project schedules, milestones, deliverables, and commissioning progress.
  • Support reporting, forecasting, and project performance metrics.

Financial Management

  • Manage project budgets and profitability.
  • Review project forecasts and resource utilization.
  • Support invoicing and financial reporting.
  • Ensure efficient execution while maintaining quality standards.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop commissioning engineers and field teams.
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Assist with staffing, workforce planning, and team development.

Client Relations

  • Serve as the primary client contact throughout project execution.
  • Build lasting relationships with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Support business development efforts and future project opportunities.

Qualifications Required Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in commissioning, engineering, construction management, or mission-critical facilities.
  • 3–5 years of experience managing data center commissioning projects.
  • Experience managing projects through the entire project lifecycle, from design and construction through commissioning and turnover.
  • Experience leading multiple concurrent projects and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with commissioning (Cx) processes and industry best practices.
  • Experience using Facility Grid software or similar commissioning management platforms.

Experience

  • Full L1–L5 commissioning lifecycle experience.
  • Hyperscale or enterprise data center commissioning experience.
  • Experience working in live mission-critical environments.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of MEP systems and mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, commissioning documents, and contracts.
  • Knowledge of integrated systems testing and facility commissioning processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Leadership Skills

  • Proven ability to lead technical teams.
  • Strong communication and client management skills.
  • Financial management experience, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Excellent organizational and decision-making abilities.

Work Environment

  • Active construction sites and operating mission-critical facilities.
  • Ability to safely navigate construction environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Travel required based on project assignments.
