Project Manager – Data Center Design
PASSION + TRUST + OUTWARD MINDSET + EVOLUTION + MASTERY + OWNERSHIP
At KL&A Engineers and Builders, we live at the intersection of design and construction. Our work on data center design/build projects brings together speed, precision, and teamwork to deliver mission-critical structures that power the modern world.
We’re looking for a Project Manager who thrives in a fast-moving, builder-driven environment. Someone who leads with clarity, stays calm amid change, and helps our design team and construction partners move together toward the same goal.
The Opportunity
As a Project Manager for Data Center Design, you’ll lead a team of structural engineers and technicians dedicated full-time to data center work. These projects demand rapid decision-making, constant coordination, and an ability to manage design that evolves in real time as construction progresses.
You’ll be the key link between our engineering team, construction partners, and other design disciplines—guiding project strategy, communication, and workflow so our designs stay responsive, accurate, and constructible.
What You’ll Do
-
Lead and manage multiple data center design/build projects from concept through construction.
-
Serve as the primary point of contact for builders, contractors, and design partners.
-
Coordinate project scopes, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with clients and internal teams.
-
Direct and mentor Project Engineers and Design Engineers, setting priorities and managing production flow.
-
Partner closely with other design consultants and builders to ensure that design decisions support construction speed, safety, and accuracy.
-
Anticipate challenges and drive quick, practical solutions as project requirements evolve.
-
Oversee construction phase services (CPS), ensuring timely responses to RFIs and field issues.
-
Foster communication across design and construction teams, keeping everyone aligned and informed.
What Makes This Work Unique
-
Evolving design: Systems and structures develop alongside construction; expect continuous adaptation.
-
Speed + precision: Builder schedules move fast; our team meets them without sacrificing quality.
-
Collaborative culture: PMs are deeply engaged with engineers, other design consultants, and clients every day.
Qualifications
-
ABET-accredited degree in Structural or Architectural Engineering.
-
Colorado Licensed PE or SE (or ability to obtain).
-
6–10 years of structural design experience, including at least 2–3 years managing projects or teams.
-
Strong knowledge of steel design and fast-track or design/build project delivery.
-
Excellent communication, organization, and client-coordination skills.
-
Authorization to work in the US without sponsorship, now and in the future.
Bonus Points For:
-
Prior data center, industrial, or large-scale builder-driven project experience.
-
Revit, RAM, or RISA proficiency.
-
Demonstrated success managing teams on fast-moving projects.
What Success Looks Like
-
You lead with confidence and empathy, keeping your team focused and supported.
-
You manage complexity with clarity, translating evolving builder needs into clear design direction.
-
You communicate proactively and build lasting trust with construction partners.
-
You balance technical excellence, client expectations, and team well-being.
