About This PositionReporting to the Head of Datacenters and Fuels, the Project Manager will lead the execution of all phases of power plant design and construction, from feasibility through commissioning and handover to operations. The PM will be responsible for managing engineering and construction contractors, driving schedule, quality, safety, and cost performance.
Overview of DepartmentThe Datacenter and Fuels department is a fast growing team currently composed of a multidisciplinary team of engineers and project managers. The team is responsible for various projects from concept studies to completion. Projects include Data centers, Power plants and low carbon fuels.Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop an overall project plan for the power plant(s), including scope definition, schedule, budget, and resource allocation
- Manage project schedule, budget, risk register, progress tracking, Safety and Quality assurance.
- Act as the primary point of contact and owner's representative with our EPC firms and other contractors. Manage all aspects of contractor performance, from contract compliance and change management to ensuring seamless execution.
- Support the negotiations of gas supply agreements, pipeline interconnects, and infrastructure contracts
- Support air permitting process.
- Support site identification, development, permitting, interconnection, and commercial structuring of gas-related infrastructure and gas projects, including for backup or temporary power
- Collaborate with the internal engineering team to review and approve designs submitted by EPC firms. Ensure all project phases, meet federal, state, and local regulations and safety standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams to evaluate commercial and technical viability
- Review and approve, project plans, vendor submittals, and construction methods.
- Implement robust change management, quality assurance, and safety programs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Facilitate lessons learned, close-out, and smooth handover of assets to operations.
- Provide regular progress updates to senior leadership and other internal stakeholders.
- Champion our commitment to safety by ensuring all on-site work adheres to the highest industry standards. Conduct site inspections and audits to verify quality and compliance with project specifications
- Foster a collaborative team culture focused on technical excellence, cost control, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or closely related field); PMP designation .
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in project management within the power , oil & gas, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Demonstrated experience with the construction of natural gas-fired power plants is essential.
- Understanding of construction and operation of reciprocating engine and/or gas turbine power plants considered a major asset
- Expertise in managing and overseeing external EPC firms and an understanding of the EPC contracting models.
- Deep knowledge of project management best practices (e.g., PMI PMBOK) and tools (Primavera, MS Project, etc.).
- Knowledge of safety regulations and permitting processes relevant to the Texas energy sector.
- Exceptional organizational, negotiation, and communication skills; ability to resolve complex issues across internal/external teams.
- Proven track record in safety leadership and quality assurance.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
- Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including: a computer, keyboard, and telephone.
- Position is part of a remote team, with regular electronic and video communication
- The position requires 4x per year travel for company-wide meetups across US & Canada and regional meetings as needed by the department.
