Reports To: Project Manager / Project Executive

Status: Full-time, on-site, exempt

Salary Range: $135,000 – $185,000 (commensurate with experience)

Position Summary

The Project Superintendent is the senior on-site field leader and the General Contractor's single point of accountability for daily construction operations, safety, quality, and trade coordination. The Superintendent must be a competent, full-time, on-site representative acceptable to the Owner and the Owner's Representative, with authority to act for the GC. The Superintendent shall not be changed without written permission of the Owner and the Owner's Representative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the GC's full-time on-site authority over labor installation and field execution; act as single point of contact between the Owner's Representative and GC for all on-site activities.
  • Plan, sequence, and direct all daily field operations, ensuring no subcontractor is on site without GC presence.
  • Lead daily Plan-of-the-Day (POD) meetings with each subcontractor's superintendent to coordinate trades, sequence work, and monitor progress.
  • Develop and update the three-week look-ahead schedule weekly; drive subcontractor compliance with the master CPM schedule.
  • Own site safety: enforce OSHA 30/10 compliance, the GC Site-Specific Safety Plan, the Owner's Contractor Handbook, and Owner safety requirements; partner with the GC Safety Manager on daily inspections, JHAs, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate 3rd-party inspection and testing agencies and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) code inspectors with subcontractors as work progresses.
  • Maintain daily construction logs with progress photos, manpower by classification, weather, equipment on site, deliveries, visitors, safety incidents, and work performed.
  • Verify daily sign-in/sign-out for all personnel on site; confirm facility ID compliance for all GC and subcontractor workers.
  • Coordinate room access, equipment shutdowns, utility tie-ins, and facility interruptions with the Owner and Owner's Representative; provide required advance notice.
  • Manage site logistics: laydown areas, trailer placement (with Owner approval), crane picks, deliveries, temporary utilities, and pedestrian/vehicle MPT.
  • Verify installed work conforms to contract documents, approved submittals, and shop drawings; reject non-conforming work and drive timely correction.
  • Lead punch list development and closeout: O&M manuals, record drawings, warranties, commissioning support, start-up/testing, training coordination.
  • Support the PM in change order pricing by validating field conditions, quantities, and durations.
  • Ensure GC and subcontractor crews wear company-labeled shirts and present a clean, professional appearance.
  • Be reachable 24/7 via GC-provided mobile device for emergencies during the construction period.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 10–15 years of progressive construction superintendence experience on commercial, institutional, or industrial projects of comparable scale and complexity.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the field on at least one (1) project of $50M+ in installed construction value; mission-critical or large institutional/higher-ed experience strongly .
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (current).
  • First Aid / CPR / AED certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
  • Proficiency with Procore, Microsoft Project (or P6), Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, MEP, and civil drawings and specifications, and to work from a BIM/Revit coordination model.
  • Ability to obtain facility identification and pass any required background screening.
  • Valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Prior superintendent experience on a SUNY, ESD-funded, or other NYS public works construction project.
  • Documented working knowledge of NYS public works requirements: Article 8 prevailing wage, certified payroll posting, and registered apprenticeship requirements
  • Experience with data center, mission-critical, or other complex facility construction, including coordination of structural, MEP, fire protection, and specialty cooling/power trades.
  • Experience working under a CM-at-Risk or Progressive CMAR delivery model with an open-book GMP.
  • Working relationships with local Building & Construction Trades Council affiliated .
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.

Working Conditions

Full-time on-site at the project location. Active construction environment including exposure to weather, heights, noise, dust, and heavy equipment. Standard 40+ hour work week with extended hours, evenings, weekends, and 24/7 emergency availability required during critical sequences, shutdowns, and commissioning.
