Support retrofit and retro-commissioning projects within existing data centers.

  • The person will:
    • Own retro-commissioning scope.
    • Support retrofit modifications in live data centers.
    • Act as the point of contact for commissioning activities.
    • Work with internal teams and vendors to complete testing and validation.

2. Location

  • Home Site: PDX51
  • Primary Locations:
    • Hermiston, Oregon
    • Boardman, Oregon
  • Travel Requirements
    • Sites are within 20 miles radius.
    • Travel depends on project needs.
    • If no active project, candidate will be based at PDX51.
  • Transportation
    • Mileage expenses must be submitted for reimbursement.

3. Role Responsibilities

Retro Commissioning Activities

  • Perform or coordinate commissioning testing.
  • Validate system upgrades and modifications.
  • Work in live operational data centers.

Vendor Management

  • Manage specialized vendors responsible for system testing.
  • Vendors often perform large testing activities such as:
    • Generator testing
    • Electrical verification
    • Control system testing.

Internal Team Collaboration

Work with:

  • Capital Infrastructure / Construction Team
  • Controls Engineering Team
  • Data Center Operations Team

Testing Responsibilities

  • Small projects: Candidate may perform testing themselves.
  • Large projects: Vendors perform testing while candidate oversees execution.

4. Systems & Technical Exposure

Electrical Systems

  • Generators
  • Electrical switchgear
  • Power distribution systems
  • Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)

Mechanical Systems

  • Data center air handling units
  • Cooling systems
  • Exhaust systems
  • Room pressure management

Controls / Automation

  • Sequence of Operations (SOO) verification
  • Control system integration testing

5. Ideal Candidate Background

Candidates with mission-critical infrastructure experience are , such as:

  • Data centers
  • Hospitals
  • Semiconductor facilities
  • Nuclear facilities
  • Navy / submarine / aircraft carrier engineering
  • Any zero-failure critical infrastructure environment

6. Required Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years supporting MEP project execution
  • Some project management experience
  • Commissioning or startup experience .

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree .
  • Strong industry experience can substitute for degree.

Example given:

  • Navy nuclear technician with 10–15 years commissioning experience is acceptable.

  • Hiring manager currently has 7 direct reports.
  • Wider support network of ~40–50 engineers in the West region.
  • Candidate may coordinate 4–5 people during projects.

10. Interview Process

  • Interview Format: Remote
  • Number of Rounds: 3

  1. Leadership principles
  2. Mechanical / electrical technical knowledge
  3. Project management skills

Interview panel includes:

  • Hiring manager
  • Two additional team members.

11. Contract Details

  • Role is contract-based.
  • Possibility of extension depending on project workload.
  • No confirmed conversion to full-time currently.

12. Business Reason for Hiring

  • Increase in capital retrofit projects.
  • Current team lacks bandwidth to support the additional workload.
