Job Summary

The Safety Coordinator supports all aspects of the company's safety program for commercial electrical construction projects. Working closely with project managers, field supervisors, and electricians, this position ensures compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety policies while identifying hazards, conducting training, and fostering a culture of continuous safety improvement. The Safety Coordinator regularly visits project sites to monitor work practices, investigate incidents, and implement corrective actions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Safety Program Administration

·       Assist in implementing and maintaining the company's Health and Safety Program.

·       Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.

·       Develop and update safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.

·       Maintain safety records, reports, and regulatory documentation.

Jobsite Safety

·       Conduct routine and unannounced jobsite safety inspections.

·       Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and recommend corrective actions.

·       Monitor compliance with company safety policies and client-specific safety requirements.

·       Ensure proper housekeeping and organization on construction sites.

·       Verify proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Electrical Safety Compliance

·       Monitor compliance with NFPA 70E electrical safety standards.

·       Ensure Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures are followed.

·       Verify arc flash hazard assessments and PPE requirements.

·       Observe energized electrical work and ensure required permits and procedures are followed.

·       Promote safe use of ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and power tools.

Training and Education

·       Conduct new hire safety .

·       Lead weekly toolbox talks and monthly safety meetings.

·       Coordinate OSHA-required training and certifications.

·       Coach employees and supervisors on safe work practices.

·       Assist with emergency response drills and preparedness training.

Incident Management

·       Investigate workplace injuries, near misses, property damage, and safety concerns.

·       Prepare detailed incident investigation reports.

·       Identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

·       Track corrective actions to completion.

Compliance and Documentation

·       Maintain OSHA 300 logs and safety records as required.

·       Complete site inspection reports and safety audits.

·       Monitor subcontractor compliance with safety requirements.

·       Assist during OSHA inspections and customer safety audits.

·       Maintain employee training records and certification files.

Risk Management

·       Participate in pre-job planning meetings.

·       Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).

·       Identify high-risk activities and recommend mitigation measures.

·       Assist with project safety planning before construction begins.

Required Qualifications

·       High school diploma or GED required.

·       Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field .

·       2–5 years of safety experience in commercial construction or electrical contracting.

·       Working knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).

·       Knowledge of commercial electrical construction practices.

·       Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·       Proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems.

·       Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Certifications

·       OSHA 30-Hour Construction

·       OSHA 510 (Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction)

·       Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)

·       Associate Safety Professional (ASP)

·       Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

·       First Aid/CPR/AED Certification

·       NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training

·       Fall Protection Competent Person Training

Physical Requirements

·       Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods.

·       Climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.

·       Lift up to 50 pounds.

·       Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

·       Wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and fall protection equipment.

·       Ability to travel between multiple project sites.

Work Environment

·       Commercial construction job sites

·       Office environment for reporting and documentation

·       Occasional evening or weekend work based on project schedules

·       Frequent travel between active construction projects (Within the Tampa Bay Area)
