Safety Manager | Hyperscale Data Center Construction

Location: South Chicago (Relocation or Travel Support Available)

Schedule: Full-time | On-site Monday-Friday (Required)

We're proud to be supporting one of North America's leading Industrial Real Estate owners as they continue to expand their General Contracting division, delivering a growing portfolio of hyperscale Data Center projects across the United States.

As part of this growth, we're looking for an experienced Safety Manager to lead health, safety, and environmental performance across major hyperscale Data Center construction projects.

Previous Data Center construction experience is essential, and candidates must be available to work on-site Monday-Friday.

The Role

Reporting to the Project Leadership team, you'll be responsible for driving a proactive safety culture across site, ensuring compliance with all client, company, OSHA, and regulatory requirements while supporting the safe delivery of large-scale mission-critical construction projects.

This is a hands-on site-based leadership role, working closely with project teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to promote best practice and achieve exceptional safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all site Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Promote and maintain a world-class safety culture across all site operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, client standards, and company safety policies.
  • Conduct daily site inspections, audits, and safety observations.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and site inductions.
  • Review and approve Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), Risk Assessments, and Method Statements.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Monitor subcontractor safety performance and provide coaching where required.
  • Work closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, and field teams to identify and mitigate project risks.
  • Prepare safety reports, KPI dashboards, and project compliance documentation.
  • Support client safety audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives across all aspects of project safety.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to speak with experienced Safety Managers who possess:

  • Proven Data Center construction experience (essential).
  • Experience working for a General Contractor on large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
  • Experience managing safety across mission-critical, industrial, or large commercial construction projects.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence teams at every level.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with digital safety reporting platforms and Microsoft Office.
  • Availability to work on-site Monday-Friday.

Qualifications

  • OSHA 30-Hour (minimum)
  • OSHA 500, CHST, CSP, ASP, or equivalent professional safety certification
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Degree or qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline is advantageous
