Position Summary

SVLG is seeking a mission-driven and detail-oriented Senior Associate, Government Affairs to support local advocacy and public-sector engagement in theCity of San Jos and across the broader region. Based in SVLGs San Jos office, this individual will serve as a key contributor on SVLGs regional advocacy team working directly with elected officials, city staff, and community stakeholders to advance pro-innovation public policies and strategic initiatives aligned with SVLGs mission.

This role will collaborate closely with the organizations senior executives including our regional coverage leaders focused strategic engagement in San Jos and across the broader South Bay. The ideal candidate will bring experience working with or within the City of San Jos, a strong grasp of local policy dynamics, and a demonstrated interest in regional issues, including housing, transportation, sustainability, economic development and downtown revitalization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key point of contact for SVLGs engagement with the City of San Jos, including the Mayors Office, City Council, and department leadership
  • Track and analyze City Council agendas, policy developments, and initiatives that impact the innovation economy and SVLG member companies
  • Support engagement with member companies navigating local government processes or participating in city-level policy discussions including AI and innovation initiatives, permitting modernization pilots, incentive frameworks, and tech-enabled governance
  • Monitor and support citywide community-oriented, livability, and public safety initiatives, as well as efforts to revitalize downtown San Jos through investment, activation, and improved quality of life
  • Maintain strong situational awareness of Santa Clara County policy developments and Board of Supervisors priorities
  • Represent SVLG at local public meetings, stakeholder forums, and civic events across Santa Clara County
  • Assist in planning and executing SVLG convenings and engagement opportunities, including San Jos-focused roundtables, policy briefings, site visits, and public-private partnership engagements
  • Support SVLG-wide events and communications, including developing briefing materials, talking points, event content, member communications, and post-event follow-up
  • Collaborate with SVLGs policy, advocacy, membership, events, and external affairs teams to ensure coordinated and strategic execution

Qualifications

  • 24+ years of experience in public policy, local government, advocacy, or public affairs
  • Direct experience working in or with the City of San Jos is strongly
  • Familiarity with San Joss civic, political, and community landscape
  • Excellent writing, research, and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable with a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated interest in one or more of SVLGs core issue areas: Tech & Innovation, Business Competitiveness, and Civic Impact
  • Familiarity with or interest in topics like AI policy, data centers, clean energy, or digital infrastructure is a plus
