Senior Automation & Controls Engineer
Houston or Dallas, Texas | $150,000–$175,000 base salary + annual bonus | Hybrid | Relocation assistance

The role
Energy Talent Search is partnering with a growing engineering and technology company to recruit a Senior Automation & Controls Engineer.
This hands-on leadership role suits an experienced engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, working with customers, and owning projects from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead projects through design, programming, FAT, SAT, startup, and commissioning.
- Design, program, test, and implement PLC, HMI, SCADA, and DCS systems.
- Work with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Emerson, ABB, Honeywell, GE, and Yokogawa platforms.
- Configure Ignition, FactoryTalk View, Wonderware, WinCC, AVEVA, and iFIX applications.
- Develop control narratives, functional specifications, I/O lists, and cause-and-effect matrices.
- Support instrumentation, panel design, electrical controls, Motion Control, Servo Systems, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Troubleshoot and optimize Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus, and OPC networks.
- Define customer scope, schedules, requirements, and deliverables.
- Mentor junior engineers and manage multiple projects.

The person
You will need a bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field and at least seven years of automation, controls, or industrial systems engineering experience.
Relevant industry experience may include Manufacturing, Industrial Automation, Robotics, Industrial Technology, Energy, Oil & Gas, Chemical Processing, Food & Beverage, Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor, Utilities, Mining, Metals, Water/Wastewater, Packaging, Material Handling, Data Centers, Industrial AI, Smart Manufacturing, and Digital Twins.
PE or EIT certification is helpful but not required. Applicants must be US or Green Card holders and must currently live in the United States.
