Senior Design Manager

Job Overview:
We’re seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to join a leading UK data-centre operator. You will lead and coordinate external architects, MEP engineers and consultants to deliver new-build data-centre campuses, facility expansions and technology-refresh projects. The role is primarily UK-based with the potential to support European projects.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage the end-to-end design process (all RIBA stages) for new data-centre facilities.
• Appoint and oversee architects, engineers, consultants and specialists.
• Provide technical oversight and approvals, ensuring quality and programme delivery.
• Draft basis-of-design, development briefs, technical specifications and business-case inputs.
• Lead design reviews, risk reporting, workshops and lessons-learned sessions.
• Support sales and bid teams with technical input and attend client workshops.
• Research and introduce innovative data-centre technologies.
• Mentor junior team members and support commissioning to ensure design intent is met.

Key Experience Required:
• Strong design-management background in data centres or mission-critical sectors.
• Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical and fire systems and MEP-driven building-services design.
• Proven track record delivering the full RIBA design life-cycle.
• Experience managing multi-disciplinary external design teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management, problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Confident presenting technical solutions to senior stakeholders and clients.

Qualifications & Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology (or equivalent experience).
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status desirable or working towards.
• Proficiency with MS Office, SharePoint, MS Project.
• Full UK driving licence and ability to obtain security clearance.
