Job Description
A rapidly expanding data center owner is seeking a Senior Director of Design Engineering to lead the technical strategy and delivery of its U.S. data center portfolio.
Based at the company’s Dallas headquarters, this role offers the chance to shape engineering standards and drive large-scale upgrades across one of the fastest-growing platforms in the sector.
The business has more than doubled in size over the past two years, now operating 50+ data centers nationwide and generating $1.2B in annual revenue. Backed by top-tier private equity and focused on upgrading and repositioning existing facilities, the company is consolidating its position as a major force in colocation.
The Role
- Act as the senior design authority across the full lifecycle, with emphasis on brownfield upgrades, retrofits, and infrastructure optimization.
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams (electrical, mechanical, controls) delivering high-availability power and cooling systems.
- Standardize design templates, specifications, and playbooks to ensure consistency, efficiency, and speed-to-market.
- Partner with construction, operations, finance, and commercial teams to align technical delivery with business growth.
- Drive cost and value engineering, ensuring competitive colocation economics.
- Mentor a team of engineers, report to executive leadership, and act as a trusted technical voice in customer-facing engagements.
Candidate Profile
- 10+ years of design engineering or MEP leadership, ideally within colocation (hyperscale experience considered but not ).
- Proven track record managing live-site retrofits and complex upgrades with minimal operational disruption.
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering required; PE license strongly (Texas PE highly desirable).
- Expertise in MV/LV power systems, UPS, switchgear, and precision cooling.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
