Job Title: Sr. Director of Hardware Engineering
Job Function: Technical Product Marketing
Job Overview: The Sr. Director of Hardware Engineering is responsible for managing the U.S. and China-based hardware engineering team and customer-facing applications engineers to develop a complete and cost-effective engineering solution to meet customers’ performance and quality requirements. It is a hands-on project engineering role tasked with building, managing, and mentoring the team and with individual contributions to engineering solutions when required. Sr. Director of Hardware Engineering develops an efficient and timely process for assessing, implementing and supporting Unigen’s products, and engineering projects including outsourcing if necessary to meet Unigen’s customer needs. Sr. Director of Hardware Engineering works with product marketing and manufacturing engineering to assess the feasibility of new products and the timely and efficient delivery of finished products. This includes product specification, design approval, component selection, prototyping, modeling, analysis, and testing. Reports to President and CEO. Located at the Unigen Headquarters in Newark, CA.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
1. Hardware
- Build an engineering team focused on innovation and new product development
- Manage a hardware engineering team focused on the development and test of high-speed storage-focused PCB products and solutions
- Guide and develop the verification team to efficiently focus on product testing and verification tools and procedures
- Develop and manage a software and firmware team to support Unigen's existing and future products
- Maintain and apply knowledge of the latest technical developments in PCB and firmware design and test for the storage, data center, and embedded industries
2. Application Engineering
- Manage the applications engineers to support Unigen customers with their technical needs
- Develop tools to effectively select the appropriate Unigen products for a specific application
- Provide technical guidance for application engineers on more complex applications
- Visit customers to assist with their engineering challenges or to conduct training
- Develop training documents, classes, and webinars, and materials for Sales, Marketing, and customers
3. Project Management
- Prioritizing and managing hardware, software, and test engineering teams focused on the completion of fast-paced and technically challenging projects
- Guide and direct resources required to keep projects on schedule and on budget.
- Participate in formal systems design, product, process, and certification reviews.
- Manage the documentation control processes
- Create and maintain the project and technical documentation to insure efficient planning and documentation
- Other duties and responsibilities related to Program Management as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; Master’s degree .
- 5+ years of high-speed PCB design, layout, and validation test.
- 3+ years managing engineering/technical teams in a manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of common PCB and CAD tools (Orcad, Allegro, Pro Engineer, Solidworks)
- Project management experience (history of managing small to medium size projects)
- Proficient in MS Office applications
- Exceptional analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to react quickly to change
- Experience designing memory, solid-state storage, and data center products including familiarity with SATA, SAS, NVMe, PCIe, USB, NAND, DDR, and Servers.
- Skills in embedded and automotive engineering.
- Experience with the mechanical design of SSDs, racks, servers, storage, and data center technology.
- Experience with solid-state disk and/or HBA/storage backplane software and firmware design and implementation
- Experience as a storage/server application engineer and managing application engineering teams
- Excellent verbal, written communication, and technical writing skills
- Must speak English and Mandarin Chinese
