Senior Electrical Designer

Job Description

**This position offers per diem for out of State candidates and monthly 3 day rotation back home.**

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Designer to lead and develop detailed electrical design deliverables for complex facilities. This role involves 3D modeling, 2D design, and coordination across multiple engineering disciplines to support new infrastructure development. The position is full-time and onsite with no telework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate electrical design and drafting activities for complex systems
  • Develop 3D models using SmartPlant 3D for electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, conduit, duct banks, lighting, grounding, and lightning protection
  • Produce 2D drawings and installation details using AutoCAD and SmartSketch
  • Prepare layouts, construction drawings, material takeoffs, and bills of materials
  • Perform lighting calculations (AGi32) and ground grid analysis (ETAP)
  • Support constructability reviews and ensure compliance with NEC, NEMA, ANSI, IEEE, and project standards
  • Coordinate design interfaces and resolve clashes with other disciplines
  • Review design changes, support bid evaluations, and assist with material specifications (SpecsIntact)
  • Mentor and support junior designers
  • Participate in jobsite visits as needed to resolve field issues

Required Qualifications

  • AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 7–8 years of experience, or 9–12 years of relevant electrical design experience
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain one (agency must be able to sponsor/hold clearance)
  • Advanced experience with:
  • SmartPlant 3D
  • AutoCAD
  • SmartSketch
  • Experience with electronic cable management systems (e.g., SETROUTE)
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and applicable electrical design standards
  • Experience producing electrical designs for complex facilities such as industrial plants, data centers, central utility plants, or secure government installations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate across disciplines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Experience

  • Federal or defense-related project experience (DoD, DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, NASA)
  • Familiarity with quality assurance programs (e.g., ISO-9000)
  • Experience modeling related systems such as mechanical, HVAC, or piping within a 3D environment

Work Environment

  • Full-time onsite (no remote work)
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background check required
  • Security clearance required (active or eligible)
