Position Summary:
The Senior Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for small, medium and large-scale commercial and industrial electrical projects. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical systems, construction drawings, and industry pricing. The estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure bids are precise, complete, and aligned with company goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret electrical plans, specifications, and bid documents for commercial and industrial projects.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for materials, equipment, and labor.
- Develop and submit comprehensive bid proposals, including clarifications, scope letters, and supporting documentation.
- Solicit and analyze pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure competitive bids.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through value engineering and alternative materials or methods.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client walkthroughs as needed to gather project-specific information.
- Coordinate with project managers and engineers during project handoff to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to construction.
- Maintain accurate records of bid results, budgets, and cost data for future reference and benchmarking.
- Stay current with industry trends, electrical codes, and material pricing.
- Support business development by assisting in the preparation of proposals and presentations as needed.
Desired Qualifications
Education:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline .
- Equivalent field experience may be considered.
Experience:
- 6+ years of experience estimating commercial and/or industrial electrical projects.
- Proven track record with projects such as manufacturing facilities, data centers, healthcare facilities, schools, office buildings, retail, hotels, multi-family apartments, senior living facilities.
Skills:
- Proficiency in electrical estimating software (e.g., Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, or similar).
- Skilled in reading blueprints, specifications, and electrical schematics.
- Strong understanding of the Electrical Code (NEC), local codes, and industry standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, and other relevant software tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
