Job Description
About the Role
The Senior Estimator will play a critical role in the preconstruction and project development process of TeraWulf's large-scale AI/HPC data centers and energy infrastructure.
This position is responsible for leading the full lifecycle of cost estimating, bid development, and pricing strategy across multiple concurrent data center projects. The Senior Estimator will work closely with engineering, construction, procurement, and finance teams to ensure projects are accurately scoped, competitively priced, and positioned for successful execution.
This role is well suited to an experienced estimator with a background in data centers, mission-critical facilities, or complex MEP-heavy construction who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, highly cross-functional environment.
Core Responsibilities
Estimating & Cost Planning
- Lead development of comprehensive construction cost estimates across all project phases (conceptual, design development, and preconstruction)
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and technical documents to quantify materials, labor, equipment, and schedule impacts
- Develop and maintain detailed cost models for data center, energy infrastructure, and HPC-related projects
- Ensure estimates reflect current market conditions, subcontractor pricing, and material/labor trends
Bid & Preconstruction Management
- Own the preparation and submission of bids, proposals, and budget packages for new projects
- Lead subcontractor outreach, bid solicitation, and bid leveling processes
- Evaluate and compare subcontractor and vendor proposals to ensure scope completeness and cost competitiveness
- Coordinate prequalification, bid documentation, and proposal submissions
Data Center & MEP Estimating
- Develop cost estimates for mission-critical systems including electrical distribution, mechanical cooling systems (air and liquid), central plants, and controls
- Interface with engineering teams to validate constructability, scope clarity, and cost assumptions
- Support development of standardized cost benchmarks and repeatable templates across data center builds
Risk Analysis & Value Engineering
- Identify scope gaps, cost risks, and design inefficiencies early in the project lifecycle
- Develop contingency strategies and cost mitigation plans
- Lead value engineering efforts to optimize project cost without compromising performance, reliability, or schedule
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner with Engineering, Construction, Procurement, and Finance teams to align cost assumptions, contract strategy, and project execution plans
- Support contract structuring, scope delineation, and procurement strategies
- Participate in design reviews and planning sessions to ensure cost-effective project execution
Stakeholder Communication
- Present estimates, budgets, and pricing strategy to internal leadership and key stakeholders
- Provide clear, structured communication on assumptions, risks, and cost drivers
- Support negotiations with contractors, vendors, and subcontractors
Process Improvement & Standardization
- Build and maintain estimating templates, historical cost data, and benchmarking tools
- Identify recurring cost challenges and recommend improvements to estimating processes and workflows
- Support development of scalable preconstruction and estimating practices as the company expands
Core Competencies
- Strong technical and financial understanding of construction estimating and cost control
- Deep knowledge of MEP systems, particularly in mission-critical/data center environments
- Ability to translate technical drawings and specifications into accurate cost estimates
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills
- Clear communication style with the ability to interface across engineering, construction, and executive teams
- Comfortable managing multiple projects concurrently in a fast-moving environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
- 8–12+ years of experience in construction estimating or preconstruction, with increasing responsibility
- Direct experience with data center, mission-critical, energy, or large-scale infrastructure projects strongly
- Proven experience leading complex bids and developing full-scope estimates
- Strong familiarity with estimating software and construction tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, Sage, or equivalent)
- Experience coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams
- Willingness to travel to project sites and participate in bid walks, design reviews, and key project milestones
Compensation: (Depending on Experience): $130,000-$150,000
