Senior Estimator (Fully Remote Anywhere in the United States)

Job DescriptionJob Description

Senior Estimator (Remote)

Company Overview

We are a leading federal contractor specializing in construction services for existing facilities, with a focus on critical and mission-critical environments. Our expertise lies in self-performing architectural, electrical, and mechanical work, ensuring high-quality, secure, and efficient project delivery for government clients. We prioritize in-house capabilities to maintain control over quality, timelines, and costs.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our remote team. In this role, you will lead the development of comprehensive cost estimates for federal construction projects, focusing on self-performed work across all divisions without reliance on subcontractor quotes. You will analyze project requirements, perform detailed quantity takeoffs, and establish accurate pricing strategies for architectural, electrical, mechanical, and related scopes. The ideal candidate has a strong background in estimating U.S. Government jobs, including those in secured spaces such as Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF), and is well-versed in federal specifications like Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS), Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and other relevant standards. This position requires the ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support bid preparation, procurement, and project transitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop preliminary, conceptual, and final cost estimates for federal construction projects in existing facilities, emphasizing self-performed architectural, electrical, and mechanical divisions.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost evaluations for all project scopes, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead, without incorporating subcontractor bids.
  • Analyze bid documents, drawings, specifications, and site conditions to determine efficient means and methods for cost-effective execution.
  • Lead pricing strategies for major projects, ensuring estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with federal compliance requirements such as UFGS, FAR, and Davis-Bacon wage determinations.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and operations teams to define scopes of work, identify risks, and mitigate potential cost overruns.
  • Supervise junior estimators or estimating teams as needed, providing guidance on complex estimates and reviewing deliverables for quality and precision.
  • Conduct value engineering assessments to optimize costs while maintaining project integrity, particularly in mission-critical and secured environments like SCIFs.
  • Prepare bid proposals, Guaranteed Maximum Prices (GMPs), and supporting documentation, incorporating historical data, market trends, and recent pricing benchmarks.
  • Ensure all estimates account for federal-specific factors, including security clearances, phased construction in occupied facilities, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist the pre-construction team with procurement planning, value engineering, project hand-off to operations, and ensuring seamless transitions from estimating to execution.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, material costs, labor productivity rates, and federal procurement processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7-10+ years of progressive experience in construction estimating, with a focus on federal government projects and self-performed work.
  • Proven expertise in estimating all divisions of construction (architectural, electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) without subcontractor input, including conceptual estimating with limited information.
  • Demonstrated experience with U.S. Government contracts, secured spaces (e.g., SCIF construction and modifications), and federal specifications such as UFGS, FAR, and other DoD/DoE guidelines.
  • Experience bidding both union and non-union projects across diverse geographic locations nationwide and worldwide.
  • Strong proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Sage, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, RSMeans) and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with BIM/VDC tools is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain security clearances as required for federal projects.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the capacity to lead estimates for large, complex projects remotely.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits or client meetings (less than 10% travel expected).

Skills

  • Experience in critical infrastructure projects, such as data centers, healthcare facilities, or military installations.
  • Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and LEED requirements in federal contexts.
  • Prior leadership in estimating teams for multi-million-dollar bids.

We offer a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and opportunities for professional growth in a dynamic, remote-friendly environment. If you are a detail-oriented estimator passionate about delivering high-stakes federal projects, we encourage you to apply. Equal Opportunity Employer.
