POSITION SUMMARY:
As a principal engineer, you hold a crucial position within an organization, responsible for overseeing and leading major engineering projects. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership abilities, and problem-solving skills. Serving as the bridge between upper management and the engineering team, principal engineers play a pivotal in ensuring the success of projects and maintaining high levels of team efficiency and productivity.
Responsibilities:
You’ll be responsible for growing and leading your own engineering team and making sure they are properly mentored and producing buildable solutions and designs.
You’ll do site inspections to determine compliance with construction documents and resolves design issues during the construction phase.
You will lead and influence the technical design solutions on prospective projects and serve as a design professional at our project design meetings.
You’ll be working along side of our Principal Engineer and assisting in marketing/sales function by providing conceptual design and engineering support.
You’ll be responsible for the success and quality of ALL work and will be able to create and implement new lead design processes, solutions and standards that will ultimately make your team and our company better.
You’ll prepare preliminary (redline) design layouts for estimating.
You’ll create deliverables and products such as calculations, drawings, and specifications related to heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems. This also includes calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection, and sizing, pipe and duct sizing, friction loss calculations, etc.

A mastery of all aspects of design engineering including a thorough knowledge of mechanical and HVAC systems for a wide range of facility types and projects varying in size and complexity.
A superior knowledge of HVAC design that includes types of equipment utilized in the industry as well as general understanding of system operations (i.e. variable air, constant volume, refrigeration cycle.)
Proven experience leading an engineering group of 5-20 design engineers, designers, BIM and administrative professionals.
The ability to read mechanical and plumbing drawings.
Competency in basic computer skills which includes BIM, Trane Software and Microsoft Office products (specifically Excel)
A superior knowledge of engineering industry and are a Code Compliance Authority
Things we know you’ll likely have:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Related Engineering
A minimum of 10-12 years of mechanical design and construction industry specific experience a plus
Experience on hospitals, data centers, central plants, cogeneration, life sciences manufacturing and laboratories
Experience with integrated project delivery (IPD), target value design (TVD) and design-build (DB)
Experience with the design and construction of emerging or alternative mechanical system (DOAS, TDV, UFAD)
Experience with sustainable building design and building automation energy modeling
Desired systems and software expertise:
Familiar with Revit design software applications.
Trane Trace (or equivalent) load calculation program
Experience with Energy Prop and IES is a plus
Proficient knowledge in use of MS Office Excel, power point and word.
Required Certifications:
Professional Engineering (PE) license
