Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Senior M&E Quantity Surveyor to take financial control of major services packages in Central London. The successful candidate will manage the commercial lifecycle of M&E projects valued up to £50m+, ensuring maximum profitability while maintaining strong relationships across commercial, residential, and specialist sectors like Life Sciences and Data Centres.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the financial management of high-value M&E packages, from initial procurement and subcontract awards through to final account settlement.
  • Conduct regular cost reporting, forecasting, and CVR (Cost Value Reconciliation) to ensure projects remain within budget and profit margins are protected.
  • Identify, value, and negotiate project variations and change orders, ensuring all additional works are accurately captured and billed.
  • Manage the specialist M&E supply chain, including tendering, performing commercial analysis of bids, and drafting robust contract documents.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly valuations and payment applications to the client, while certifying subcontractor payments and managing cash flow.
  • Proactively identify commercial risks and develop mitigation strategies, while spotting opportunities for value engineering and cost savings.
  • Provide expert advice on contract conditions (JCT/NEC) and ensure all commercial notices and obligations are met to protect the firm’s position.
  • Lead and develop junior or assistant surveyors, providing guidance on commercial best practices and professional growth.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Extensive experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor specifically within the M&E sector on projects valued at £20m+.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related engineering discipline.
  • A strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems to accurately challenge costs and value works on-site.
  • Deep knowledge of standard forms of contract (JCT and NEC) and a firm grasp of construction law and dispute resolution.
  • Proficiency in commercial software and advanced Excel for complex data analysis and reporting.
  • A results-oriented individual looking for a fast-paced environment and a clear path toward Commercial Management or Directorship.
