Senior Mechanical Engineer - Design-Focused - Data Centres - Critical Infrastructure\n\nAre you a design-focused Senior Mechanical Engineer looking to work on some of the UK's most technically challenging data centre and critical environment projects?\n\nOur client is a leading M&E contractor with an annual turnover of circa £90 million, delivering high-profile commercial fit-out, data centre refurbishment, and critical infrastructure upgrade projects across the UK. With a strong reputation for technical excellence, an impressive order book, and a genuinely people-focused culture, they have built a business where staff retention is exceptionally high and long-term career development is a priority.\n\nDue to continued growth and a significant pipeline of secured work, they are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their expanding engineering team.\n\nThe Role\n\nWorking as part of a highly skilled technical team, you will take ownership of mechanical design activities from initial concept through to detailed design, commissioning, and project delivery. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on complex refurbishment and upgrade projects within live critical environments, including data centres and mission-critical facilities.\n\nYou will play a key role in ensuring technical excellence throughout the project lifecycle while providing engineering support across the wider business.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Assist in the assessment of new project opportunities and preparation of fee submissions.\n\n * Develop and produce all necessary mechanical calculations and design solutions from concept and briefing stage through to detailed design.\n\n * Produce and review technical documentation, specifications, drawings, and reports.\n\n * Ensure designs comply with current regulations, industry standards, and client requirements.\n\n * Monitor and support construction activities on site, ensuring compliance with design intent and the high-quality standards expected by the business.\n\n * Lead and manage critical testing and commissioning activities, including:\n\n * Integrated Systems Testing (IST)\n\n * Black Building Testing\n\n * Mechanical commissioning and performance validation\n\n * Provide technical guidance and support to project teams, site teams, and wider business stakeholders.\n\n * Collaborate closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams throughout project delivery.\n\nAbout You\n\n * Degree qualified or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.\n\n * Minimum 5 years' experience within mechanical building services design.\n\n * Strong understanding of HVAC and mechanical systems within critical environments.\n\n * Experience delivering projects within data centres, critical infrastructure, commercial fit-out, or similar technically demanding sectors.\n\n * Competent in mechanical calculations and industry-standard design software.\n\n * Knowledge of current British Standards, Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, and industry best practices.\n\n * Experience supporting testing and commissioning activities within mission-critical facilities would be advantageous.\n\n * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.\n\n * Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.\n\nWhat's on Offer?\n\n * Opportunity to join a highly respected and financially stable M&E contractor.\n\n * Strong pipeline of secured projects across the data centre and critical infrastructure sectors.\n\n * Exposure to technically challenging refurbishment and upgrade projects within live environments.\n\n * Clear progression opportunities within a growing business.\n\n * Supportive, culture-driven environment with excellent staff retention.\n\n * Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.\n\nIf you are a technically strong Mechanical Engineer looking to take the next step in your career with a business that genuinely invests in its people and delivers some of the UK's most exciting critical infrastructure projects, we would love to hear from you.\n\nApply today for immediate consideration
