Company Overview
GTI designs, engineers, and manufactures complex modular infrastructure supporting battery energy storage, power , modular data centers, and industrial systems. Our BESS platforms integrate battery racks, power conversion systems (PCS), transformers, HVAC systems, fire suppression systems, and high-power electrical distribution into factory-built modular enclosures. These systems support grid-scale and commercial energy storage deployments used for load shifting, renewable integration, and grid resiliency.
Position Overview
GTI is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of Battery Energy Storage System enclosures and integrated platforms. This role is responsible for developing manufacturable steel structures, equipment layouts, thermal management strategies, and serviceable enclosure designs that support high-power battery and inverter equipment. The engineer will collaborate with electrical engineering, manufacturing, and integration teams to deliver production-ready modular energy storage systems.
Key Responsibilities
• Design steel enclosures and structural platforms that house battery cabinets, PCS inverters, transformers, and electrical distribution equipment
• Develop equipment layouts supporting service access, ventilation, thermal separation, and cable routing zones
• Perform structural analysis and FEA on welded assemblies, lifting structures, anchoring systems, and transport frames
• Perform CFD and thermal analysis for battery cooling, HVAC airflow, and heat rejection within enclosed systems
• Design sheet metal, structural weldments, and modular steel assemblies using SolidWorks
• Ensure designs support UL 9540 energy storage system certification requirements and thermal event mitigation strategies
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to coordinate penetrations, cable trays, grounding provisions, and equipment spacing
• Apply Design for Manufacturing principles supporting fabrication, welding, integration, and field installation
• Support prototype builds, factory integration, and NPI phase gate reviews
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for mechanical issues discovered during testing or production
• Mentor CAD technicians and junior engineers on enclosure design and modular packaging strategies
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 7+ years of experience designing industrial equipment, energy systems, or modular infrastructure
• Strong SolidWorks experience including weldments, sheet metal, and large assemblies
• Experience with structural steel design, thermal analysis, and HVAC packaging
• Experience supporting high-power electrical equipment packaging or industrial enclosures
• Strong knowledge of engineering documentation, BOM development, and revision control
Qualifications
• Experience designing battery energy storage systems or power conversion equipment
• Familiarity with UL 9540, UL 9540A, and NFPA 855 frameworks
• Experience designing modular or containerized infrastructure systems
