Senior Mechanical Engineer: Data Center Liquid Cooling

MissionXI are searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a leading global developer and operator of next- digital infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in data center construction, liquid-based thermal management systems, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and mechanical design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering design and integration efforts for large-scale data center developments.
  • Develop and validate liquid cooling and direct-to-chip thermal management solutions, including cold plate, manifold, and rack distribution systems.
  • Oversee the design and specification of HVAC, piping, and fluid systems to support high-density compute environments.
  • Collaborate with electrical, controls, and construction teams to ensure optimal system performance and coordination across disciplines.
  • Conduct thermal modeling, CFD analysis, and performance optimization studies to support design decisions.
  • Evaluate vendor solutions, oversee factory witness testing, and ensure system compliance with mechanical codes, ASHRAE, and industry standards.
  • Manage design consultants and mechanical contractors through design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Support research and pilot projects for emerging cooling technologies and sustainability initiatives.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and review mechanical deliverables for quality and consistency.

Qualifications:

  • 8–10 years of post-doctoral professional experience in mechanical design or thermal systems engineering.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing data center mechanical systems, preferably on hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise projects.
  • Direct experience with liquid cooling, direct-to-chip, or hybrid air/liquid cooling systems.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics in high-density environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working with design and construction teams through all project phases.
  • Proficiency with CFD modeling tools (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, 6SigmaDCX, Icepak) and mechanical design software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar).
