Job DescriptionJob Description
General Description:
The Senior Network Engineer is a key member of the infrastructure team responsible for the design, engineering, optimization, and long‑term reliability of the organization’s network infrastructure. This role provides technical leadership across routing, switching, firewalling, wireless, WAN, and hybrid connectivity environments to ensure secure, resilient, and scalable network services that support business operations.
The Senior Network Engineer serves as the highest‑level escalation point for complex or critical network issues, leading root cause analysis and driving permanent corrective actions. In addition to hands‑on engineering responsibilities, this role establishes network standards, contributes to architectural decisions, and mentors Network Engineers and Network Administrators. The position collaborates closely with security, cloud, and application teams to align network solutions with enterprise architecture, security requirements, and business objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Network Architecture & Engineering Leadership
- Lead the design, engineering, and evolution of enterprise network architectures supporting LAN, WAN, data center, cloud, and remote connectivity environments.
- Translate business and application requirements into scalable, secure, and resilient network solutions.
- Serve as a technical authority for network standards, architecture decisions, and engineering best practices.
Advanced Implementation & Technical Oversight
- Lead complex network implementations, migrations, and large‑scale upgrades, including routing, switching, firewall, wireless, SD‑WAN, and VPN technologies.
- Review and approve network configurations and changes implemented by Network Engineers and Network Administrators.
- Ensure new solutions are fully tested, documented, and transitioned into operational support.
Escalation & Root Cause Ownership
- Act as the highest‑level escalation point for complex or critical network incidents and performance issues.
- Perform deep root cause analysis across network, security, and infrastructure layers.
- Drive permanent corrective actions and preventative improvements to reduce operational risk and downtime.
Network Security & Risk Alignment
- Design and enforce network security architectures including segmentation, firewall policy strategy, secure remote access, and zero‑trust networking principles.
- Partner with security, compliance, and audit teams to ensure network designs meet regulatory, risk, and governance requirements.
- Support security incident response activities involving network infrastructure.
Performance Optimization & Capacity Strategy
- Analyze long‑term traffic trends, utilization, and performance metrics to guide network optimization and investment decisions.
- Lead capacity planning efforts and roadmap development for future growth, cloud adoption, and technology refresh cycles.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising performance or security.
Documentation, Standards & Governance
- Own and maintain authoritative network architecture documentation, diagrams, standards, and engineering guidelines.
- Define and enforce network engineering standards to ensure consistency, reliability, and operational excellence.
- Ensure documentation supports audit readiness, disaster recovery, and knowledge transfer.
Mentorship & Cross‑Team Collaboration
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to Network Engineers and Network Administrators.
- Collaborate with IT leadership, infrastructure, application, and cloud teams on strategic initiatives.
- Serve as the primary technical interface with vendors, service providers, and external engineering partners.
