Location: Remote - Must live in the Mid-Atlantic or NC, GA, or FL / 25–30% travel required

Job Type: Full-Time | Exempt

Salary: $140000 - $170000/ Year

Position Summary

The Senior Network Engineer and Cloud Architect will lead and enhance the organization’s network and cloud infrastructure across multiple healthcare sites. This role demands expertise in enterprise networking and the ability to create secure, scalable Azure cloud environments. As an individual contributor, this role will drive technical design, lead engineering strategies, and collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to support the organization’s cloud transformation. Experience ensuring HIPAA and HITECH compliance and managing on-premises-to-Azure migrations is a plus.

ResponsibilitiesNetwork Strategy Support & Administration

  • Define and execute the enterprise technology platform, systems, and infrastructure roadmap with a focus on healthcare and clinical system requirements.
  • Partner with senior leadership, practice management, and clinical teams to align IT capabilities with care delivery and organizational strategy.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot routers, switches, wireless access points, and firewalls.
  • Support LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks, including monitoring performance and resolving connectivity issues.
  • Assist with implementing network changes, upgrades, and new site deployments.
  • Maintain accurate IP addressing, VLAN configurations, routing policies, and network documentation.
  • Architect, implement, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, including routing, switching, firewalls, SD-WAN, wireless, and load balancers.
  • Lead network design for multi-site healthcare environments, ensuring availability for clinical systems (EHRs, PACS, RCM applications, imaging systems).
  • Manage hybrid connectivity solutions between on-prem data centers, clinics, and Azure (ExpressRoute, VPN gateways, BGP routing).
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network performance, latency, security issues, and connectivity challenges across distributed sites.
  • Develop and maintain network diagrams, security zoning, IP schemas, and capacity plans.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity leadership to embed privacy and security by design into IT architecture.
  • Oversee disaster recovery, clinical continuity of care, and high-availability strategies across IT platforms.
  • Drive automation, monitoring, and operational efficiency supporting the healthcare environment.
  • Support security system rules, VPN access, secure wireless configurations, and segmentation policies.
  • Apply updates, patches, and configuration changes according to company security standards.
  • Provide Tier-2/Tier-3 support for network and telecom issues escalated from the Service Desk.
  • Perform root-cause analysis for recurring issues and recommend improvements.
  • Monitor network and telephony health through enterprise tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or vendor dashboards.

Cloud Architecture and Azure Engineering

  • Lead enterprise systems architecture for solutions relating to cloud platforms (Azure), storage optimization, networking, and telecommunications systems.
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of emerging healthcare clinical and patient communication technologies.
  • Design Azure landing zones, virtual networks, integrations, governance controls, and automation frameworks.
  • Participate in and help lead on-prem to Azure migration efforts, including discovery, planning, dependency mapping, cutover, and validation.
  • Implement cloud- solutions such as Azure Firewall, Application Gateway, Private Endpoints, NSGs/ASGs, and hybrid DNS design.
  • Execute direct engineering tasks in Azure, including provisioning, automation (ARM/Bicep/Terraform), monitoring, optimization, and security hardening.
  • Develop architecture documentation, operational procedures, and reusable templates for cloud deployments.
  • Ensure infrastructure supports scalability for multi-site medical practices and specialty healthcare growth.

Documentation & Standards

  • Update diagrams, site inventories, device configurations, and SOPs.
  • Maintain organized, consistent documentation to support operations and troubleshooting.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Standard business hours with occasional after-hours maintenance as needed.
  • Participation in on-call rotation.
  • Occasional travel to remote office locations and data centers.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience with a strong emphasis on Azure infrastructure, leading projects and managing network builds and implementations; strong background in network security required.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Network+, or equivalent experience.
