Senior Quantity Surveyor

Job Description

Role: Senior Quantity Surveyor – MEP (Data Centres)

Location: Hertfordshire or London

Employment type: Full time/permanent

Salary: Competitive and negotiable

We’re working with a specialist contractor delivering full-scope infrastructure packages into hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data centre environments. Their MEP division is scaling fast, with live projects across the UK, Ireland, the Nordics, and mainland Europe — and they’re now looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team.

This role sits within a dedicated in-house delivery unit for mechanical and electrical systems, where you’ll have full visibility from tender through to final account, and genuine opportunity to grow into a Managing QS or Commercial Lead role as the division expands.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Managing the full commercial lifecycle of MEP packages on data centre projects (typically £1m–£50m+)
  • Working closely with project teams on-site and senior management to ensure cost, contract, and risk management across all phases
  • Procuring specialist MEP subcontractors and suppliers, including managing tender processes and contract negotiations
  • Issuing applications for payment, assessing subcontractor valuations, and managing variations and change control
  • Producing regular cost reports, forecasts, cash flow reports, and final accounts
  • Supporting commercial strategy development, working closely with Commercial Leads and Directors
  • Contributing to internal process improvements and mentoring junior QSs when needed
  • Interfacing with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners to ensure alignment and delivery on expectations

What we’re looking for:

  • 5–10 years of Quantity Surveying experience, with a strong focus on mechanical and electrical systems
  • Experience on data centre, hospital, pharma, or critical infrastructure projects is highly desirable
  • In-depth knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contract forms
  • Strong procurement, negotiation, and subcontract management skills
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent workstreams and confidently manage stakeholders
  • Proactive, hands-on mentality - someone who thrives in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment
  • Flexibility to travel to site locations across the UK and EU where required

What’s in it for you?

  • Join a business delivering end-to-end MEP and technology infrastructure for some of the world’s most demanding data centre clients
  • Work alongside a highly experienced in-house team - no outsourcing, no silos
  • Clear and achievable progression to Managing QS / Commercial Manager level
  • Competitive salary, car allowance, travel expenses, bonus scheme, and ongoing training
  • Exposure to large-scale, complex projects in a high-growth sector
